I have the bush urc-3541 and have put in the code for a Sony tv but it only works with the remote virtually touching the tv infrared panel! Any thoughts why this might be?

It sounds like either the infrared panel is broken or the sensor which sends the infrared signal from your remote is damaged. Usually, infrared is very reliable unless there is something blocking the "line of sight" or the view between the devices. Below is a link to clone an infrared signal to create a new remote or you could simply purchase a universal remote. Good luck.

To confirm if the remote control is working or not, aim the infrared emitter of the remote control directly to your cellphone camera, while pressing any button key you will see the flash of the infrared if the remote is in good condition. Click this LINK for more info.

If there's no flash of an infrared, the remote control is already faulty.
• Replaced the battery to ensure that the symptoms is not caused by low charged.
• Take it apart and check for bad solder joints especially on the battery terminal and on the infrared emitter.
• Ensure that there's no blockage on the infrared receiver in front of the TV.

If you've confirmed that the remote control is already faulty, click this LINK for the replacement.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Remote will not work to change channels or turn the t.v. off. have installed 2 new aa batteries and still does not work

There is an easy way to check if the infrared light used by the remote to communicate with the television is working or not. All you need is a cell phone with a camera on it (or any camera). Cameras can detect infrared light that easily unlike our eyes which cannot see infrared light. Point the camera at the top of the remote where the infrared lights are. Press the power button on the remote and you will see the infrared light blink on for a second. If this is the case, you know the remote works. If not, you have a broken remote or one that needs to be fixed. I can help you a lot more if you provide the model of remote you have. Good luck!

My samsung led remote control has just stopped working and i can't get it to work again. I've changed the batteries and i cannot find the reset button. I've unplugged the power from the wall and still no...

We need to find out first if the remote is putting out the IR signals or not, or the problem is in the TV IR receiver module.
Testing remote control:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera's Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera's screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals.
