SOURCE: why is it that
This may be due to a slow internet connection at your end.
When you click on a video, watch the progress bar at the bottom of the screen just above the YouTube PLAY and the MUTE button.
As the video is first loading onto your computer from the internet, the really LIGHT RED progress bar will move steadily to the right until it reaches the far side, which then means the video is fully downloaded. This bar will move at different speeds depending on the size of the file and your system's and internet connection's download speed.
As the video is actually playing, the DARK RED progress bar and the white circle will move to the right as well showing you what part of the video timeline is currently playing. When this dark red bar and white circle reaches the far right hand side, then that is the end of that video and it finishes playing.
If your white circle and dark red progress bar catches up to the light red progress bar, then the video will have to pause temporarily in order to let more of the video download before it can play it. This can happen often if you have a slow system or a poor internet or wireless connection.
One thing you can try in order to avoid this is to pause the video at the start and wait until the light red progress bar gets all the way to the end before you start playing the video again. That way you won't be trying to play a part that hasn't been downloaded yet and the video won't have to stop halfway through.
