I am having the same "freeze" problem. I recorded my son's Christmas program and cannot finalize my disk. Is all of my data lost?

I am trying to finalize a Maxell DVD-R DS (double-sided) disc. When I hit Disc Navigation on one side, it freezes as well, and will not do anything else. The other side is working fine, but all of my recordings are on the other side that freezes. How can I finalize this disc?

So you have to finalize it to play the entire disk? It's there...my disk says there is only 8min left but the disk navigation only shows one thumbnail and only plays for 15sec. Then shows a green play arrow and one green stop bar. What do I do to have the rest.

I had the same problem - you are (as I was) turning off the camera too soon after you hit the stop button after recording a scene. Wait until the word "disc access" appears (about 5 seconds after you hit the stop button. This "marks" the end of the scene. I just don't know how to edit that scene out or if it will delete it out. I know after finalizing the disc that scene will pause for a while (10 to 20 seconds even) when you watch it through the DVD player to the TV.

I am having the same problem, problem is I am trying to finalize a full disc. I do not which, if any of the scenes are "corrupted" if I shut the camcorder off too soon or not. So how does one finalize the disc, when I can't get there using the disc navigation button.

DZ-MV730A Cam - unable to finalize, locks up creating thumbnails

Sorry this isn't the ultimate solution especially if the disc is full - I'm still trying to retrieve data from a disc that locks up creating thumbnails although it will play on the camcorder to a point. If there is room left on the disc, try recording briefly then press disc navigation button. A couple of times I was able to get past the lockup this way.

Tip

Removing Thumbs.db Files

When viewing a folder with the Thumbnail view, WindowsXP creates a thumbs.db file.
This is a cache of the current pictures in that directory.
If you want to turn this feature off and save a little disk space

  1. Start the Windows Explorer

  2. Go to Tools / Folder Options / View

  3. In the first section under Files and Folders, check Do not cache thumbnails

  4. Now you can search for the thumbs.db file on your computer and remove them. No more should be created.

Finalizing dvd

I had the same problem for about an hour. I finally got it, though not sure how. I think it had something to do with the green button on the on/off switch. I pressed it down while at the same time pushing the on/off button down to "mode". When I went back to finalize it yet again, I got the option to select "Yes". Hooray!

NEED FINALIZING DVD

Hi!! My husband just sat down and finally figured this out,

You have to use disc navigation, then wait for the thumbnails to show up and then push menu and scroll down three times to the disc, and then choose finallize and then tell it yes. You do have to have it plugged into the a/c adapter tho in order to do this for some reason.

Hope this helps,

Gin
