SOURCE: heater sometimes ignites and goes out. it repeats

The flame sensor rod should be cleaned, if that doesn't fix it check the combustion air switch. There should be an error code, look for a blinking light and code chart under the filter door.

SOURCE: Pyrox natural gas heater not functioning properly

Clean the burners out with air pressure, like from a air tank, and a blow gun, then clean the pilot light orifice(this is where the pilot light is)if this does not help, replace the thermocouple ,it will be the problem,if this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

SOURCE: Describe your Problem i have a quasar vulcan gas

What do you mean by the pilot light is on but won't light. Do you mean that there is gasbut won't light. If so the spark may not be hitting the pilot properly or it may not be getting enough gas. If lighting but continuing to spark the sensor may need cleaning. This can be cleaned with steel wool (not sand paper), probably will need to disassemble the pilot asembly The pilot may also be dirty reducing gas flow. If this is the case dis-assembly will be needed and the pilot cleaned.

SOURCE: pyrox /vulcan model no 4720006

Hi Chastrix,

Are you follow the below steps to start up your device?

  • First Press the ON / OFF button
  • Then you need to raise the temperature to HIGH so that the heater calls for heat
  • The you will find that within 10 seconds the gas valve will open and the sparkler will function and Also Ignition will commence on a low gas rate and move to high fire after 3- 5 seconds (only if high is selected on the control)
  • Within 5 seconds the flame sensor will prove the flame. 5. The fan will not operate until the fan thermostat switch has sensed temperature rise. This may take 2 or 3 minutes.
  • The fan will then start on a low fan speed and after 3 - 5 seconds move to high speed (if High is selected on the control)
Hope this helps..:)
Let me know in case you have any queries.

Have a richmond 6G40-36F1 hot water heater had to turn off gas for another issue, now igniter doesnt spark and pilot wont light

Not to sound silly, but are you pushing the igniter button down hard enough so it snaps? If so, your igniter is no good. Try to light the water heater the old fashioned way by using a match. I would use fireplace matches since they are long enough to reach the pilot light point.

Is there a trick to starting the Pyrox 400? Turned the fan on and press on low then repeatedly press the ignition pilot light, start to smell of gas after a minute. Won't start Help please

Is the ignition sparking? When you press and hold down the buttons, the ignition should be sparking at the centre electrode. At the same time when you hold the buttons down, the gas valve is manually held open to release the gas. The spark is then supposed to ignite the gas. Hold the knobs down for about 3 to 5 seconds after ignition and the gas valve will stay on. If it lights but the flame wont stay on, it could be anything from a partially blocked aeration port to a worn knob. When you push down on the knob, it is supposed to press down on an electromagnetic lock which keeps the gas valve open when the flame is burning. When the knob or shaft isn't pushing down enough, it doesn't keep the gas valve locked and the flame will go out as soon as you let the knob go.

I have a Pyrox gas space heater 20 years+ old where the control panel does no work

Honestly. You would be best off replacing it with a new one. The new ones are really inexpensive and most have safety features like auto shutoff when tipped. Not worth trying to repair 1980-1990 'technology'. I out it in quotes because there was no use of technology in those old things.
