Look for the error code, that would lead you to the problem area, most likely the fuser assy. needs to be replaced. Do this, Press;
press 2 and 8 (together),
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS again,
You should now be in Service mode, if not hit CLEAR twice then repeat the steps above.
the one listed at the top is the error code.(write it down)
You can try clearing the code then reboothing the machine with the right side switch and it might work.
This is how you clear the code, follow all the steps above except the last one (ERR) instead select FUNCTION above then CLEAR then ERR. Turn the machine off then back on again.
If that does not help and you are still having the same problem, you could either call Canon with a service call, call a local technician or get yourself a service manual and with the error code you wrote down above try looking it up or contact us again with the error code. Good luck.
Note that clearing the error may not necessarily fix the fault. Press the * with a circle around it then press 2 and 8 at the same time. Then press*again. Press copier touch button / function / clear / error /ok button then switch off. Switch the machine back on. The error code indicates that the machine doesn't sense the temperature of the fuser getting hotter. Usually this calls for the fixing film unit to be replaced because the thermistor has gone bad.
Wow, that is a very good copier although quite old.Unless the wheels have been run off of it its a keeper. I used to work for Kodak when they marketed this machine and I was a service tech for them. Great machine. I had one that had 6 million copies on it and was still worth keeping. Now to the point. Unfortunately this copier has a physical "jumper" inside the back panel that has been removed which causes the copier to expect some type of additional action to provide access to the device. There were several ways to gain access (access codes, external controllers, even a card like a credit card) to the copier once this jumper was removed. The jumper is actually a small connector that fits on the end of a wiring harness that basically completes a circuit to tell the copier to be ready. Without the jumper, the copier is waiting for an external device or virtual device to "complete" the circuit. It has been over 10 years since I touched one, so I am sorry that I can't recall the exact location of the wiring harness. However,typically the "jumper" (a small connector with a mere loop of wire from one pin to another) is tied near or onto the place it belongs. So I guess my point is that the copier is worth the time it would take to remove the covers and inspect the wiring in hopes of noticing a stray connector that is just dangling. I wish I could be of more help, but maybe I have been some help. Take care and good luck. :-) ................spinal........
WHEN THE SHARP AR-5316 PHOTOCOPIER IS SWITCHED ON THE ERROR CODE 4H APPEARSAND THE MACHINE CANNOT BE OPERATED. IHAVE TRIED THE SOLUTION SUGGESTED JUNE THIS YEAR BUT IT DID NOT WORK. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THE MACHINE TO WORK? IT IS VERY URGENT.
Have to reset the cleaning web counter and error. Press *, 2&8, * to enter service mode. (*28*). Highlight COPIER, select COUNTER, select MISC. select CLEANING_WEB and press C on the keypad to clear the counter. Press reset to get back to main service menu, highlight FUNCTION. Select CLEAR. Highlight ERR and press OK. Switch machine OFF/ON.
Hope this helps, let me know?
