Regulator lowes C2002 type 8 will not hold pressure can feel leak around gauge regulator.

SOURCE: no air pressure thru quick connect to tools-bag regulator?

I dont know if it is like mine,but if you can let the air out of it and remove the regulator knob,and it`s components,you may can set it to just to be open all the time,in other words,by pass the control knob valve.Shout back at me if I can help.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
Your Portor Cable C2002 was produced in 3 versions: Type 0, Type 2 and Type 3.
I will use the Type 2 version as my reference.

There are 2 reasons for not building up pressure.
1. The connecting rod seal and sleeve: (Cylinder kit) ($19.51)

2. The valve plate is either dirty of has failed Item 106 of the above Type 2 link PN: Z-A08548
and if it looses pressure when off ....
3. Check valve (Item 11 top link)

Try cleaning the valve plate up first. Usually when I make this repair I change the valve plate and install a Cylinder Kit. I have done this repair 4 times.

I have the same unit and had the same problem Its a good little mechine but the problem is the houseings for the gauges when you are loading the mechine can get hit and move up and this will bend the neddle on the gauge and make it hang up . You can carefuly remove the lense with a small screwdriver it just snaps on and off then gentaly bend the neddle pointer backand snap the lense cover back on and it should work again . Just be carefuly when you transport the mechine not to let the base of the gauges touch anything

Hi alchids...
You only need to adjust your regulator normally one time...that is the first time you use it to set it to the pressure you want.
Try to rotate the regulator knob clockwise, that is the way you adjust the amount of air pressure you will want.
If the gauge still does not move try changing the gauge, it may be faulty.

File a complaint with porta cable and also know these compressors have a three year limited warranty. If you have a receipt like I did when mine started leaking only after about a year and light duty and hardly used too.. Anyway , I returned mine for full credit where I bought it. I might try one more but thinking bosch this time. Bosch makes one about the same size and might be made better quality.. I;m going to check their ratings.

No regulated pressure - check valve hose gets extremely hot- hear leak under the black housing on PC c2002


I have seen the hoses develop a leak right where they exit the metal tube from the pump. The bad part is that you have to pull the pump apart to repair it. Here is a diagram so you can see what you have.

I just took my Porter Cable C2002 compressor out of the box, plugged it in, turned it on, rotated the regulator counter-clockwise and the pressure gauge does not move off zero.

My porter cable C2002 Type 3 air compressor will build air in the tank, but I am not getting a pressure reading on the regulator gauge.


I have same problem with my PC2002 type 3 AC and come to find out after removing the know for the regulator, inside there is a spring(remove it),underneath is a seal with a nipple in the center that is used to let the air though. It is made of plastic(so mine broke).Tough job is finding that seal.

I have a 2004 ford sport trac and my check engine light it on. i tried reseting the computer it work for a day or two but came on. then had it check and its saying that something about bank 1 bank 2 that...


Don't think it would be the fuel rail, as that is only a pipe to hold the gas and the injectors. So if you have low pressure, it is probably either the fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator. Wouldn't cost much if anything to have the fuel pressure checked. I believe Autozone or O'reilly's will rent those fuel pressure gauges, with just a refundable deposit.
The pump is doing something since the engine is still running. If your pressure is too low (below the specs for your truck), a pressure regulator is cheaper than a pump, so you may have to try both, first the regulator.
But first, pull the vacuum line to the regulator off and run the engine for a minute. Watch the regulator: if gas starts coming out the vacuum fitting on the regulator, then it is definitely shot and you need a new pressure regulator.
If the regulator is not leaking, check the fuel pressure. If low probably the pump, but maybe the pressure regulator. Ask the guys at autozone (or where you get the gauge to check pressure) how to test the regulator as you are checking the pressure.

No air on tools side


Hi, Between the two gauges is the regulator adjusting knob. Turn this until you see the pressure rise on the tool side gauge. You can also test for a rise in pressure in the air hose by connecting a blow gun, and pressing the trigger as you make adjustments. If you cannot raise the pressure with the regulator, it is probably bad.

Worked fine previously. Now when turned on the tank pressure comes up normally . However, the regulated pressure gauge reads zero and there is no airflow.


What happens when you twist the regulated pressure knob, as you would to increase the regulated pressure? Does the knob turn? Does it turn until it stops, but still reads zero? If so, it sounds like the regulator pressure spring is broken. That's inside the regulator, and you will probably have to replace the regulator.

Low fuel pressure


U 1st need to test fuel pressure at the fuel pressure test port on the top of the engione in the fuel supply rail to the injector tops, it looks like a metal tire vale stem, u will need to buy a special fuel pressure tester to do this test. U should have around 55-60 PSI at idle, it should go up when u gun the engine but never go down, if it goes down the fuel filter or pump are suspect.
