yeah hedenram is right. my problem was that i was trying to pair something WITHOUT the headset in pairing mode. just switching it on doesnt put the headset in pairing mode and it will reject the 0000 passkey even if this is correct. it is vital when you turn on you hold the power button til it flashes red/green and then it will be in pairing mode and accept the 0000. the only way i found this was in the instruction booklet which i thought i had chucked away

SOURCE: pin code for Altec Lansing

On your phone, make sure bluetooth is turned on (settings, general).

While your phone is in discovery mode, turn your bluetooth device on and put it in discovery mode (usually you have to hold the power button for 7-10 seconds).

Your phone will find the device, and you will be prompted to enter the devises PIN number (often 0-0-0-0). Your phone should pair with the device then.

SOURCE: i cant pair my nokia 6303c to my parrot incar set

It appears some Parrot models use 0000 but a number also use 1234.

Try 1234 first, but the link below gives user guides for a number of Parrot products.
See if your model number is listed, or scroll down and see if the pictures let you identify it.

SOURCE: trying to connect bluetooth to

The pass code should be 0000 (four zeros), it's always been that for Plantronics headsets. Here are a couple of things to try. First, remember that newer phones are like small computers, so they may become corrupt over time and you may need to reset them every so often. Simply turn your phone off and remove again the battery for a few seconds, then replace the battery and turn it back on again. Second, you want to reset the headset. The attached user guide for the Plantronics Explorer 230 on page 7 will show you how to turn off / on the headset and page 4 will walk you through the pairing process. Remember to remove any previous bluetooth connections from your phone.

I go to set up my wireless headset with my playstation 3 but it won't pick up any devices.

You must put both the PS3 and the Backbeat into pairing mode. See your instruction manual for the PS3 for pairing. Once you have both devices searching for each other they should pair right up.

Instructions for putting the Backbeat 903 in pairing mode:

With the headphones powered off, press and hold the Power/Pairing button until the LED indicator flashes blue and red.
Use the PS3's menu to search for the Bluetooth headphones and select 9xxBackBeat.
If prompted, enter 0000 for the PIN code/passkey.

I have a samsung phone and i am trying to pair it with my jabra vbt185z but i don't know the passkey...i tried using 0000 but that didn't work. so what else can i do to make it work?

You do need the passcode. It should "auto pair" but the default passkey or pin is 0000 (4 zeros.)

Here is a link to the user manual
http://www.jabra.com/sites/Jabra/GNimages/Products/WirelessHeadset/BT2010/Documents/UM/VBT185z_UM_6198.pdf

Headset Pairing Readiness Instructions:

1. Fully charge headset for two hours.

2. The headset will automatically go into pairing mode if no device has

been previously paired.

3. Set your mobile phone to 'discover Jabra VBT185Z'.
4. Enter passkey or PIN = 0000 (4 zeros), then press Yes or OK.
