Thanks for quick reply. I downloaded what you said and when I click burn to disk, it says "please insert media to continue", but there is already a disk in the drive. I was thinking of purchasing another brand of dvds to see if that would help. Any ideas?

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps you

Ok this type of thing is very common ... however often we chase our tails looking for a software fix when often it's the DVD/CD itself.. so to find out either way weather the device is FUNCTIONAL, download "CopytoDVD" here This has it's own ASPI recording layer... and if your DVD is FUNCTIONAL... then it WILL burn ya DVD... however if the DVD is, as I suspect, .. kaput! then it will NOT burn a DVD.. that's basically how we would "Test" Functionality. So if it works then ya all good.. else ya gonna haveta get a new DVD.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L750D and my TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L633F ATA device, {CD/DVD writer} will not read nor recognize and soon as I press D: , the door opens and I get prompted to load th

Go to "Control Panel, then " then "System and Security" and then "Device Manager". Check under "DVD/CD ROM Drives" to see if you Optical Drive is indeed listed. If it is not there, it needs to be reinstalled. Go to and download the "Chipset" driver for the appropriate Operating System and install it and then reboot your system and see if the drive has been found.

If the Optical Drive is present, you can delete it and then download and install the Chipset driver to replace it with a correct driver.

I have seen this happen multiple times with Toshiba laptops. Good luck.

Why Won't My Toshiba Satellite Laptop (A200 -AH3) Not Burn Discs?

Look for any software on the machine that uses the the burner. Start by updating it (many of these programs use what are called burning engines to process the request to write to a cd, and if theyre damaged, then the writing process will appear to occur, but wont do anything). If you use programs that download and manage music (such as Limewire, Bearshare, or Napster), uninstall them.
As a last ditch effort, you can try the istructions in this Microsoft article:
Be warned, you will have to reinstall the software needed to burn your CDs if you do this. It has fixed 99% of CD burning issues out there. Good luck

My asus drw-2014l1t dvd ram drive burning error

Take a look at this registry key - you might have a different GUI id after Volume

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives\Volume{1365b506-f359-11dc-ac07-806d6172696f}

There should be a REG_DWORD called DRIVE TYPE
The values should be 1 for a CD-R and 2 for CD-RW

To verify - Go to My Computer and Right click the CD/DVD drive and then Properties.

You should now have a RECORDING tab and be able to burn CDs and DVDs

You need to re-boot for 3rd party software such as Roxia etc to now see the drive
