I believe in your model of air compressor, when you take apart the head portion to your compressor you should have four reed valves. When you have it apart, there should be two "grooves" on the bottom "plate" and two "grooves" on the top plate (where the reed valves go). the bottom part is easy (as you should already know) to set in the reed valves, but as i have also found out, as you probably have, that its a little more difficult to line up the other reed valves to thier "grooves" on the upper "plate". What you do to make sure that they stay in place is dab a little oil or grease on the reeds and place them in the upper "plate grooves" and carefully set the upper plate back in place where it goes on the compressor. It will hold them in place long enough to install it on the compressor and the small amount of grease that was there will quickly be burned up with no effect to the opperation to the machine.
Sorry, long winded explanation. hope this helps and if it didnt get to you soon enough i hope it helps out in the future. :-D

Air compressor model no. 921.153101 blowing air trough air cleaner

If you get air movement out of the air cleaner and it only compresses air to 25psi, you have bent or broken reed valves in the head. Take the head off the cylinder and inspect the valve plates and reed valves. This is a Craftsman compressor so you'll most likely have to get parts through Sears at www.searspartsdirect.com. For best results replace everything between the head and cylinder; gaskets, valve plates and reed valves.

I took top of compressor off and the 2 plates that have 2 small brass plates that seem to fit into a groove on the 2 plates but cant seem to figure the correct assembly for the plates and brass plates.

The link below is not exactly like your compressor but will give you an idea of how heads are assembled. If gaskets need replacing try making them out of automotive gasket material or use the metal from aluminum soda/beer can. If you need to replace a reed valve, make it out of feeler gauge material. The reed valve needs a little wiggle room to work, try to use gasket material of same thickness. There are two chambers in the head (upper most part), one chamber is intake the other is exhaust. The intake valve is usually slightly cleaner looking than exhaust valve (exhaust valve gets hotter, looks burned) and exhaust chamber in the head is usually darker sometimes oily. Intake reed is closer to piston. Exhaust reed is closer to top of the head.

Hitachi Ec 119 compressor will not build pressure beyond 25 pounds; no air is heard leaking after I power down the machine. Is it likely the check valve or pressure switch?

If your compressor keeps running and only builds to 25psi, I would suspect the reed valves, head gaskets or a leak. With the compressor running spray soapy water on all fittings, around the head area and tank components. If no leak is found, remove the air filter and feel for suction at the intake(make sure head is not too hot). If you feel good suction at first then suction is lost after reaching 25 psi, most likely reeds or gaskets (with bad reed valves, sometimes you will actually feel air blowing out of the intake). Good luck

My compressor won't build pressure over 90lbs

Small leak will prevent the unit from building proper pressure. Check all connections with soapy water and repair as needed (including under cover). If no leaks are found check cylinder for scratches. Push piston to top of stroke and check walls for fine scratches. If scratched, pressure is leaking past vinyl piston ring. If no scratches or leaks, most likely reed valves, head gasket or combination of both. Easy test, with compressor running and attained 90 lbs, place finger over air intake and check for good suction (carefull could be hot) . If good suction, then air is leaking somewhere, of no suction suspect reed valves/worn cylinder, if air seems to be blowing out of intake, suspect reeds /gaskets. Good holidays

Only builds up to 40psi

I am assuming you have check for line leaks, both on the compressor and your line out of the tank and the valve on the bottom of the tank is closed. This is usually a sign your valve plate is damaged, most likely a broken reed valve. If it's an oilless compressor it could be the wiper on the piston. Without knowing the model number all I can suggest is take the head plate off and check the valve plate. If all of the reeds are in place and not broken or cracked you'll have to check the piston.

I have a dewalt air compressor model d55155 will not bulte up any presure changed the cold start valve and the reed valves but not the reed valve plates it seemes like like now i have air coming out the...

If you have oil coming out of the oil fill and dip stick you most likely installed the reed plate upside down. Usually it says this side up or there is an arrow pointing up on the reed plate.
This is a good sketch of compressor and reed valve assy.

Usually the reeds are on top of the plate facing downward. If you have just a reed disc.. then the disc will need to be inverted.

3gal craftsman horizontal compressor wont build pressure

Without knowing specifics of your unit, If there are three reeds, then two are probably for intake and one for exhaust. Intake reeds should be on the piston side of the valve plate, discharge reed should be on the head side.

There should be a divider in the head side to separate the inlet from the discharge. Make sure the valve plate is turned so that the air from the air filter side goes to the side with the intake valves, and the air from the discharge valve should go to the side with the pipe to the tank.

Ec12 hitachi air compressor will not build pressure higher than 40psi

most likely the the reed valves are stuck or miss aligned. Worse case senerio your piston seal blew causing this not to build pressure. Read manual on how to disassemble head. to remove should be 4 bolts and your copper line, just be careful of the reed valve plates, they are thin steel that sit into the head. Put back the same way you took it apart.
