Battery will not charge on a dell d610 when plugged into outlet

Light near keyboard does not come on indicating ac power is connected. Tried AC power cord on another dell laptop and it checks out good. Battery will not charge and will indicate several hundred hours remaining on charge while plugged into ac. System will stay on with battery pulled. Battery is known good and will charge in another dell laptop. pulled motherboard out and solder connections on power plug show no discrepancies and input power is measured at solder connector. Could this be a bios issue? Tried to flash to an older version, but unable due to system does not recognize external power is plugged. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
