Question about Washing Machines
Machine is stuck on sensing and will not operate. It also is making a very loud egg timer noise. I have unplugged machine for extended time but when I plug it back in and turn on its back to sensing and the loud timer noise.

occurs due to belt slippage. I would check your belts (look for cracks.

If part of a belt gets torn and it is long enough, it will hit any part of the washing machine within range and make a clicking noise at every revolution of the motor.
I am pretty sure you need new belts. You should be able to remove a few screws and open the back cover. Between the pulleys there is a tensioner...loosen that so you can remove the belt easily. replace it with a new belt and adjust the tension.

Tub bearings and seal have failed. My SAV405DAWW just started with the loud grinding and I am now in the process of finding out if I can fix it myself. Kurt

Set the timer to any off position. Unplug the unit for 10 minutes. Plug it back in and try that. The worst thing
you can do to a Maytag washer is advance the timer yourself...hope this helps.
