I'll send you a link to the full 'illustrated parts manual' maintenance wise, i regularly oil up the inner shafts and brarings in the tube, also grease up the shaft that has the plastic sleve over it, Because it can become dry and start to grip within the case and vibrate.

Stihl pole saw will not spin when pole is extended. Shaft will not stay out.

You must disassemble the shaft assembly.
**NOTE: take a photo of each step of disassembly so that you will have a record of how to reassemble and where all the pieces go.
I have worked with them for over 20 years, it is hard to remember, and there is no book!
More than likely you have an inner shaft driver or bearing that has failed, the shaft my be excessively worn. It is hard to say without seeing what is inside.

How to attached pole to the saw?

difficult to know what you mean
if you are talking about a pole saw then it is a saw attachment that is used on the end of a straight shaft trimmer
It has a small chain saw fitted to it and by adding extensions to the shaft of the trimmer you can reach up and cut branches at a height of up to 4 meters from the ground
there is no pole for a regular chain saw as this would place too much weight at the length and besides how would the throttle be worked.

I have a RYOBI pole saw that starts fine, but there is a disconnect between engine and saw blade. The blade will not turn.

I assume you have the Ryobi powerhead with the multiple tool shaft (can use it with an edger, blower, trimmer, and pole saw) If so, does the powerhead square drive spin when you squeeze the throttle trigger? Does the chain move freely on the saw end when not connected? Is the attachment fully inserted into the powerhead shaft (small spring-loaded button should pop out of the hole when fully inserted.

I want to attach the chain saw to the pole

ahhhg i would say NO if its made for a pole get the right pole ! you will find that the first time you use it you come back with just the pole and no saw.. and the you break you neck trying to retrieve your saw way up in the tree.. WHY U ASK ? the saw blade will get pinched . means stuck in the cut. and will need another saw to rescue it.. fun huh .if you need a little extra height use a truck bed. never use a ladder . good luck be the gas tank is a filter. you can use a clothes hanger to fish it out, remove it blow it it out backwards with air . or replace it. if this don;t work buy new fuel lines ,carb kit, carb cleaner spray(parts master #1736 my fav) and a new spark plug. when doing the carb just replace gaskets and diaphragm .. don't worry about all the other stuff in the kit, you are just washing the carb to get gunk or dust out of it .. all back together and wa la.. ning ning niiing.. back in biz.. one other thing that goes bad is the crank shaft seal( the 1 next to the clutch) and it can be a pain to replace ! vote if'n i was of help.. remember BUY USA MADE PRODUCTS.. How to attach chainsaw to pole

I am not sure what model number you have, but here is a link the owner's manual for model # 106821A ... On page 15 of this owner's manual explains how to attach the pole to the saw. Just make sure you are attaching the saw that is made to fit the pole or it may not work or be to heavy for the pole. I hope this helps.
