Question about Brother Sewing Machines

Open Question

Pe 8500 The cutter is not cutting while embroidering and when a design color moves from one place in the design to another, it sometimes pulls the thread so tight that it breaks the needle ... then when I try to back up the design, the top thread is pulled into the thread path and winds itself around a wheel inside the machine .... HELP? ... repair guy told me he thought a software update might fix it - I find that a little hard to believe ... machine is old but not dead .. when it works, it does beautiful embroidery

SOURCE: Satin Stitch Problems - Designer SE (similar to the Designer 1)

You should take your machine to a Husqvarna authorized repairman. Suggest checking the grounding of the tension unit stepper motor. Earliest models weren't properly grounded and tension could vary. An authorized repairman should know where to go from there. I don't know of anything that you should attempt on your own.

SOURCE: Embroidery

I had the same problem. It maybe you have some bits of thread caught inbetween the metal plates . That's what my problem was . Try cleaning carefully between the plates with something flat carefull not to scratch them.

SOURCE: Viking 1+--Thread breaks during embroidery

If the thread will not run through the tension mech on 0 then it is probably stuck on a tight setting. It can be a bit complicated but the tension mech can be stripped/cleaned/free'd up. Another possible cause is the path of the thread from the spool to the needle any deviation from the correct path increases the tension at the needle. If you do not know the history of the machine I would suggest a thorough clean and service.

SOURCE: Designer 1: upper thread shredding while embroidering

I too, have the same problem withmy Designer 1. I just bought ISACORD brand polyester embroidery thread to hopefully solve this problem, but I believe it must be a tension problem. I have a "date" with the repair lady on Friday (11/22/08) and if it gets repaired I will re-post what the problem was. Still love the machine WHEN IT SEWS!!

SOURCE: The selective thread cutter not cutting thread.

You need a new blade in the cutter. It is a simple repair job, but needs to go to the repairman for it to be done.

Why does the auto cut not work consistently on my Topaz 30 when embroidering

Where the cutter comes out notice carefully where the cutter lies. This place needs to have a piece of felt. Yours is worn out. You can fix it by glueing a new piece there.

Embroidery unit

This can happen, click back to tools option check whether hoops selection is correct. If this is not the problem, off your machine then put on again. If message remain pull out the embroidery carriage & push in again. Hope it can work.
In jam situation, just exit from your embroidery option, fix the jam by moving the embroidery carriage, work on a different design and see if it work. Sometime a design may not work fully.

A high pitched sound comes out of machine when inserting card.

I'm new to embroidering and mine did the same thing a few weeks ago. I discovered the buzzing sound was because the design I saved to the card was too large. I decreased the size and the design worked perfectly.

Needle up down moves the embroider

It's okay - it's supposed to do that! The Needle Down button has a different function when you are in Embroidery mode i.e. you have the emb. unit attached.
It moves the emb. arm forward for two reasons: so you can cut top-side jump stitches more easily between colour changes (you touch the button again and the emb. arm returns to under the needle so you can finish the design); and secondly so you can "park" the embroidery unit when you are finished. You can then turn the machine off, remove the emb. unit and replace it in the carry case. If you DON'T do this, the emb. arm is not in the right position to fit into the moulded carry case properly.

The Broken Thread message usually means that it has started the colour, but the thread has been pulled down underneath instead of making nice locked stitches. Hold onto the thread end until the machine has stopped and beeped for you to cut the thread. This usually solves that problem. Sometimes the thread gets pulled out of your hand so just back up the stitches a few and start over, holding the thread more tightly. Don't tug on the thread - just keep a firm grip.

Designer 1s often cut the bobbin thread too short so that it can't make those nice locked stitches when it starts. You need to take off the hoop, open up the bobbin cover and use your stylus, the tip of a pair of scissors, tweezers (whatever is to hand) to pull the bobbin thread out a little. Instead of cutting it on the bobbin thread cutter, just let it hang outside by 1/8" or so. That way you can be sure there is enough bobbin thread available for the stitch to lock. Don't use the scissors button on the machine after every colour change. Sure, it makes for a tidier back of the embroidery with less work for you afterwards, but if it means you are taking the hoop and bobbin cover off after every colour change then it is not worth it in time-saving.
If your machine is doing this - cutting the bobbin thread too short - mention it to your tech. when you machine goes in for its next service. He may be able to tweak the bobbin cutter so it does not cut so close.

Thread tangles under throat plate while embroidering

Could the little hook that is stuck over the bobbin area be the thread cutter? My thread cutter gets stuck there and I have to turn my machine off and then try to use the cutter to reset it to its "resting" position.

Connecting to a computer

Are you asking how to connect the Brother PE-400D sewing machine?  You have "how to connect the '4000D' to a computer and what risk if any".  Which machine are you asking about - these are two different sewing machines.  If you are inquiring about the Brother PE 400-D, then your answer is... this machine is NOT capable of being connected to a computer.  However, if you wish to purchase or download embroidery designs from the internet, you may look into purchasing the Brother PE Basic. This allows you to download embroidery designs from the internet to your computer hard drive and then load them on to a Brother memory card.  The Brother memory card can then be slipped into the proper slot for the memory card on the sewing machine.  You will need to purchase embroider designs that are in the PES format for you Brother machine to read it.  Hope this helps!

Bobbin Thread

I have had the same problem. I always just used the same color of bobbin thread as on the top. It is a pain to change inbetween each block, but the designs usually look perfect. I will have to try playing with the tension.
