I have a Dish Network 510 DVR Receiver and I know it has an internal Hard Drive. I have recorded shows and I want to transfer those to my computer. Reason I want to do so is because lately updates have wiped out my programs, even the protected ones. I will upgrade soon and I own my DVR so voiding the warranty is no problem for me. Also do you know if the movies are compatible or are they in a different format?I am pretty sure the format is Mpeg4.

ArmyMason,
Unfortunately as a Dish Network Employee I must inform you that acording to Dish that is not possible however a good computer tech may be able to help you with a work around but keep in mind that if any damage occurs to the receiver that Dish will charge you for the receiver. When you do upgrade check into the receiver models that have an expansion port for an external hard drive. A 211 which is a solo hidefinition receiver without DVR can have a port activated for as one time charge of 39.99 and you can use the hard drive you supply as the DVR. Yoiu also will not be accessed the 5.98 DVR fee every month and if the receiver needs replacing you still have your recordings. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

TV showed "Problem Detected" with a possible solution of unplugging my unit for 60 secs. and allowing it to reboot. I do this routinely (Once a mo), but did it again. This time it cleared ALL recorded items (including protected items) I had 43 hours available for recording. It also Cleared all scheduled timers, and now will not allow me to record if I try to use "Create A timer" or "Create a Scedule". Is my harddrive fried?? (I've had problems with it locking up for about the last 12 months) Dish Network DVR
