As an update the printhead did fix it for me. I did some macro photography on the old printhead before buying the new one and the cyan portion was visibly damaged as if it had made contact with something. A new printhead solved the problem. Unfortunately that was $500 plus I used up 3 ink cartridges in vain trying to clean the broken printhead. Another $180. $500 a year for a printhead completely places this printer out of competition with HP or Epson. Neither of which I have had issues with, print every bit as good with a far lower cost of consumables. If I have to do this again within a year I will unload this and change back to my more trusted brands unless Canon can step up to the plate. If they don't they may as well hang it up with wide format as being sub-par is not a good way to penetrate the market already dominated my HP and Epson.

You need to boot the printer into service mode.
Hold down the roll/source button and the info button while you are powering on the machine.
This should get you booted into the service menu where you can then access the replace printhead function
When you have successfully replaced the printhead, reboot the printer to get out of service mode,
You may also want to check the firmware version of your printer and update it.
Updates can be found on the Canon website

it's a multiple problem....there is no enough ink for the head managment sensor to understand the good function of the print head.
Print a nozzle check to see what is going on
Then come back for more information

Hello,
The head management sensor detected an ink discharge error.
A sensor sensitivity error was detected during head management sensor position adjustment.
Possible solution is to reinstall your old print head or replace print head with new one.
