Question about Audiovox Prestige APS997C Alarm/Remote Start with Doorlock Interface

1 Answer

Remote start starts car and dies off after few seconds

I installed my alarm and remote start myself. I know i hooked up everything right. But the car starts and shuts down after i start it with remote. Sometimes it stays running too for the whole duration it it set to. I have connected my tach wire and programmed it to learn the tach rate too. I dont know if I have to do it again. The remote also plays a melody when it shuts off like I shut it off myself with the remote. Please help for i have tried everything in my knowledge to solve this. And when i start with the car key, it starts with no hesitation so I know the car works fine.

Try having the cpu reset using a code reader as you may have two systems operating in conflict that is causing the problem.

Testimonial: "i tried resetting the cpu but still the problem exist. When i was wiring the alarm to the ignition harness, I tied ignition 1 and 2 wire together to a single ignition output wire from the remote starter. I dont even know why i did that coz the remote starter has two ignition wires. I went back to it and separated them. the car now starts and runs but after a few seconds the siren sounds but the car still runs and shows and indicator on the remote that the car has been bumped. What i do now to prevent this is to press the unlock key after the car start. That way the alarm does not sound. Not sure what the problem it now. I also installed a relay to turn the dome light on when the unlock key is pressed. I used the door trigger output of the relay to the dome light. I dont know if it this relay causing the alarm to trigger when the car is running under the R/S. somewhere in the installation manual i saw diode connected in line with the hood pin but i didn't use any diode in my installation. could that be the problem too?"

I bought a Spy brand one-way car alarm/remote start for my wife's 09 Camry. Everything is installed, and works except for the remote start.

Installations of this nature are usually reserved for professionals. However, get out your installation manual. You will also need two single pulse double throw relays and some diodes. First you will need to locate the ground when running. This wire might be labeled " (-) third ignition". The first relay for the starter will be wired like so: starter wire to 86, fused 12 volts to 87, 30 out to vehicle second starter wire, 85 to ground when running. The second relay will be wired 86 to vehicle ignition, 87 to fused 12 volt, 30 out to second ignition, and 85 to ground when running.

Maybe it's the anti-theft system an not the remote start . Is the SECURITY light lit on the instrument cluster ? GM anti-theft systems will disable the fuel injectors if there is a problem .

Your alarm may have lost the tach signal, that was learned to it, when it was originally installed. That would cause the remote start to try starting the vehicle over and over again, until it finally stays running, because it can't read the engine speed to know it's running.
If you can find the valet push button switch in your vehicle, try this; Start your car with the key and immediately after it starts, press and hold that valet push button switch until the alarm led on the dash stays lit up or the park lights flash. Then, release the valet switch, shut the car off and try remote starting it. That is the procedure to re-learn the tach signal. Hope it works for you.

the problem isnt with remote starters, or with viper products. the problem is with under qualified persons attaining products they have no qualifications to operate.
TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALER(VIPER ALARMS) and they can fix the problem.
remote start was designed for people who want to start their car from afar and could actually comprehend that the multifunction remote was not only a keyfob to lock a door , or start a car, but it is also capable of remotely accessing certain programming features of the viper alarm, and whilst in some goofballs pocket........while he was sucking down goldslager was unintentionally reprogramming the viper alarm, and setting it into various modes of operation.
your lucky you didnt accidentally program it into carjack mode. lmfao

2007 chrysler 300 with audiovox remote start will start and die security light flashes

Your car should have some type of aftermarket immobilizer bypass connected to the alarm/carstart. It seems like it will have to be reprogrammed. Try this, put a key in the ignition switch but do not turn it to any position then remote start the car using your alarm. Did the car start and stay running? If so then the bypass module has to be reprogrammed. If not then I would be careful as to how many times you remote start the car to figure this problem out. your car CAN "loose" all the codes to the keys and or the bcm. The only way to fix that is to take it to the dealer. TRUST ME I'M GOING THROUGH THAT MYSELF ! If you are not a professional car alarm installer then take it to one, let them have the headache.

Car doesn't start

This may or may not help. Hopefully it will. We recently purchased this 1998 chrysler town & country. Everything was working fine, started fine, etc. we took it to get emissions done.....passed emissions.. .made it home. i turned the car off to run inside for a minute. came back out car started.. ran for 3 seconds than died out. tried again... ran for 3 seconds than died out... after that it no longer would do anything. all the lights worked except in the ignition module. the top dashboard lights worked though. I then noticed that the "alarm set" light stayed lit. after replacing fuses and running an OBD test and found no trouble codes or issues with fuses it dawned on me it may be the alarm. after searching the internet for hours i found a forum that suggested unplugging the battery for about 5 minutes....rehook it and then try starting it again. well i tried doing that the first time using the REMOTE to unlock the doors and nothing happened. i locked the doors and repeated the same battery unhook-rehook process except without using the remote... (i noticed a lot of forums saying that the remotes can be deffective in that they somehow trigger the alarm if the transmitter is not working properly)... so after unhooking and rehooking the battery and using only the key to unlock it started right up! so i've decided to not use the remote at all and have had no other problems. let me know if this helps
