This can happen if the amp has an internal fault such as a shorted output transistor.

look at these and only these... power or ground...either your power wire has grounded out somewhere (ud be surprised) or youdont have a good enough ground....i would check the ground first....hopefully this helps

You notice how they hook it up the left connections are your full range or hi frequency speakers and the switch is on for HPF (High pass Filter meaning only high frequency is being passed thru)

The right connections are connected to subs and the switch is on for LPF (Low pass Filter meaning only low frequency is being passed thru)

If you turn off these switches to off the its FULL RANGE all frequencies will pass thru.

The single output of the radio is probably for a subwoofer output but since your using the amp to power speakers too Its useless because your sending only low frequencies to the amp which will make any speakers connected to the amp sound horrible due too all the highs and mids will be filtered out.

STEP 1. 2 4ohm speakers depending where you put them Front or back. Hook these speakers up to the Radio's speaker wires coming out of the radio harness. You can also call them Hi level output wires FR & FL wires if positioning them in the Front. Hook them to the RL or RR if positioning them in the Back. What ever wires you dont use tape them SEPARATELY . DO NOT TAPE THEM TOGETHER and cause them to touch each other it will short out the radio and you will hear no sound.

STEP 2. Ok get 4 same length speaker wires and cut them long enough to go too the amp. Now these speaker wires will only send the FULL RANGE frequency signals to your amp. So note with a paper and pen how your connecting each speaker wire. I would tape one wire with black tape to remember this is the FR right, 2 tape FR left, 3 tape BK right, 4 tape Bk left. And I would make the copper thread of the wire positive and silver thread of the wire negative (very important so that your in phase and it will sound awesome) mixing up the positive and negatives will give you a tinney sound and it horrible to hear .

STEP 3 connect these 4 speaker wires to the High level out speaker wires coming out of the radio. The wires that are already connected to the 2 4ohm speakers go ahead and splice into them and the ones you didnt use connect to the remaining 2/4 speakers. REMEMBER OR NOTE THE CONNECTIONS cause you have to connect the right sequence and right polarity + & - to the HI Level input of the AMP. You will not use any RCA'S from the radio to the amp anymore. Since your radio dont have any Front & Rear output coming from the back of the radio. (YOU CANNOT USE BOTH RCA INPUT & HI LEVEL INPUT OF THE AMP ITS 1 or the other OR YOU WILL BURN OUT THE AMP AND DAMAGE THE RADIO)

STEP 4. Now connect your 2 6ohm speakers of your front left and back left together in parallel and your 2 6ohm speakers of your front right and back right together in parallel. Look at the diagram hook it on the left connections as in the picture of the front left speaker(but your connecting two 6ohms valued at 3ohms when in parallel and the amp can handle 2ohms so its safe) Do the same connection for your two right speakers as shown in the diagram of the Front right speaker. SWITCH THE HPF to OFF so that you get full range out of your speakers. Mid range is 70% of your music if you turn it ON you are only getting the high frequencies and it will sound awful.

STEP 5. This is the final connection Your 6 ohm sub is very bad for this amp. For example if you bridge it off of the last two channels the amp may double the power. If each channel is 100 watts and you connect the positive to one channels positive and connect the negative to the others channel negative(presuming its bridgeable) On a regular 4ohm sub it will be getting 200 Watts of power which is an average thump. Now you put a 6 ohm sub it will be weak and it will be getting around 130Watts. To make it worse if this 4 Channel amp is not bridgeable you can only connect it to 1 channel and the output will be around 70 WATTS causing distortion due to lack of power. If you still connect the sub be sure the switch is ON.

Good luck cause this the best connection you can do anything different and I'm sorry it will sound even worse. I am a master installer and have done this for 12 yrs. The higher the ohms the worse the sound gets cause less power. Thats why car speakers are 4ohms and home speakers are 6 ohms or higher cause they have a bigger amplifier to power and 120volts AC current. A car only has a 12Volt DC current powering the amp.

Hi there,

First do a test on another device like a cell phone or walk man. You can also test the speaker with a battery. A sub with a different Ohms can also damage the amp. a 4 ohm speaker will drop lower than 4 ohms.the average is 4 ohms because the impedance goes up and down depending on frequency.

So if you say 4 ohms is the max. you don't want the 4 ohm speaker going lower and stressing/damaging the amp. Also have a look at 'impedance curve' and you will see the line changes from whatever ohm is in the specifications a 4 ohm speaker might drop well down to 2 ohms and some people would either destroy their amp faster, or cause their protect mode to turn on, or cause their protect mode to grow more and more sensitive until the receiver doesn't want to work with 8 ohm speakers ever again.

How to hook speakers up to a realistic mpa-40


The MPA-40 is a mono public address amp. So it has one speaker output. You select the appropriate socket to suite the speaker type. The 4/8/16 Ohm outs are for various tpyes of Hi-Fi speaker. The 70 Volt is used for muzak in shopping centres, restaurants, and waiting rooms.

If you have a pair of 8 ohm Hi-Fi speakers, you can diasy chain the connections and then use the Com and the 16 Ohm connection.

Daisy chain means you take the wires from a pair of speakers. Connect together the wires going to red on one speaker and black on the other. This now leaves you with two wires going to the other red and black terminals on the speakers, but the ends in your hand are not connected to anything yet. Plug the black in to COM. Plug the red in to 16 Ohm.

The sound from the speakers won't be stereo. It will be mono because that's all the amp outputs. But both speakers will work so long as they're functioning units.

If you have two 4 Ohm home theater speakers then you can do the same trick. 4 + 4 makes an 8 Ohm load. Connect the red to the 8 Ohm output.

Don't be tempted to try to connect to multiple terminals. The amp isn't powerful enough to to run more that one speaker chain.

Do you bridge a 850.4 four channel amp when it is 2 ohm stable and ur subs are wired up as series/ parallel and there 2 ohm dual voice coil speakers


If you wire 2 ohm dvc speaker parallel that would give you a 1 ohm load. If your amp is only 2 ohm stable that would not work. You would have to wire the speaker in series giving you a 4 ohm load. Then you can bridge the 4 channels into 2 with each speaker running at 4 ohms.
If you want to run a 2 ohm load use all 4 channels on amp and speakers. No need to bridge.
For 2 ohm DVC:
Parallel = connect both + and - together. = 1 ohm
Series = connect + from 1 channel to - from the other channel. = 4 ohm.

I have a pioneergm-d8500m amp and it stopped working and the green led just flashes.. i bought a new amp to replace it and it just does the same thing.. what is going on to cause this


crossed speaker wires or loose strands creating a short circuit, improper speaker ohmage or a blown speaker.

verify that you dont have any positive strands coming in contact with negative strands/terminals, the amp case, the speaker frame, or any metal part of the car chassis.

verify that you only have a 2 ohm load connected to the amp. most car speakers are 4 ohm (siginfied by the greek letter "omega" on the back of the spoeaker magnet, or in the speaker specifications), but some are 2 ohm and/or 2 ohm x2 voice coils per speaker. 2x2 ohm coils/speakers would produce a 1 ohm load, which would cause the amp to overload, and go into "protect" mode. to achieve a safe load, you need to use 1x4 ohm speaker, 2x4 ohm speakers or a dual voice coil speaker with 4 ohms per coil x2 voice coils, wired in parallel.

you can also achieve 2 ohms with 2 speakers with 2x2 ohm voice coils apiece (that is, 2 speakers, each with 2 ohm voice coils apiece, 2 speakers with 4 voice coils altogether of 2 ohms apiece) by wiring the two coils per speaker in SERIES, and then wiring the two speakers circuits in PARALLEL. wiring the coils in series means connecting the positive lead of one coil to the amp positive, then connecting the same coils negative to the positive of the second coil, and finally connecting the negative from the second coil back to the amp negative terminal. if you wire both dual voice coil speakers in series, and then connect both series circuits back to the amps positive/engative, than you have the coils in series, and the speakers in parallel- achieving an overall 2 ohm load from 4 total voice coils between 2 speakers.

I have the Alpine MRP-M1000 amp. I want to use 2 subs with this amp. Which Alpine subs would work best with this amp?


this amp is rated at 600w at 4 ohms and 1000w at 2 ohm so as long as you calculate your speakers to match the ohm specs of the amp you can hook up

parallel = pos to pos and neg to neg of the 2 speakres
2 - 8 ohm speakers in parallel = 4 omhs
2 - 4 ohm speakers in parallel = 2 ohms

series = pos to neg of the 2 speakers
2 - 1 ohm speakers in series = 2 ohms
2 - 2 ohm speakers in series = 4 ohms

Will a sony 600watt amp run a 10 300watt 4 ohm sub?


Yes, but the wattage numbers are pure marketing and have no bearing in reality or fact. In general, given realistic amplifier power specifications, a higher-powered amp will be a better and safer power source for any given speaker than an under-powered amp since the latter will probably have to go into severe distortion to produce the same loudness a high-powered amp can provide cleanly. Distortion kills speakers.

I hope you can help:-) I have a Realistic 35 watt solid state P.A. amplifier and on the back of the amp is this: 70V 16 8 4 COM There are holes under them for wires, how do I hook up the speakers to this...


This would depend on if you are using 4,8,16 ohm speakers or a 70v system.

For regular speakers the (-) wire would go to the COM terminal
the (+) would go to either the 4,8 or 16 ohm terminal (Check on the speaker itself for the "impedance").

If more then one speaker is used then there is some other math involved, but i can help with that.

The 70V terminal is used when powering a bunch of celing speakers like in stores and malls. Each speaker has its own transformer on it, all the transformers are connected togeather in a chain and wired to the COM and 70V terminals.

Realistic MPA-35 amp by Radio Shack


It's not that this amp isn't like "newer amps" with + and - terminals, it's that this amp is made for public-address system use. This kind of amp is used in a store, for instance, to pump background music through speakers all over the place. The terminals you connect to are determined by total impedance of the speaker configuration used.

Most single speakers, or the two- or three-way cabinets for home stereo systems, are 8 ohms. If you're connecting a single speaker you use the "common" and "8 ohm" terminals on the rear panel. With multiple speakers, you need to figure out the total impedance and use the appropriate terminal. In series, impedances add. Two 8 ohm speakers in series would total 16 ohms, so you use the common and 16 ohm terminals. In parallel, the total impedance drops. Two 8 ohm speakers in parallel total only 4 ohms. You need to figure the total impedance of the speaker configuration and connect accordingly. Too great of a mismatch will damage the amp or speakers or both.

You might be able to find the manual for this amp on Radio Shack's website. Here's a link to the manual for the model MPA-40 which should have similar output terminals. The basic information about figuring out total impedance and general use of PA amps applies to your amp as well.

I have a pair of Cerwin Vega 123's as they are 4 Ohm BUT just one pair only as this will have your amp working harder!!!
