Upgrade cpu to 15-580M on 0G2R51 dell motherboard

I have a dell vostro 3500 with a 0G2R51 dell motherboard. It has a i3-350M cpu and I would like to upgrade to an i5-580M. The I-5 580M has same G1-socket, L1 and L2 cache and 35w TDP. The FSB of 1066 mhz matches but I'm not sure The L3 cache does. Graphics and memory controllers are located on a separate die. And I'm wondering about that too. thank you

This could be a sign that your laptop is overheating. If you touch the laptop while it is running & you find it too hot, make sure that the fan is running properly & that the air ways are not blocked.
You can blow compressed air into the cooling vents of the fan. If you notice clouds of dust coming out, then it might be a good idea to disassemble the laptop, clean the fan & air ways, & reassemble it back. If the fan has failed & is no longer running, it might need to be replaced.

If none of this solves the problem, or is not the case, then you might have a bad motherboard.

was your vostro 230 third generation? meaning, did it use DDR2 memory before or always had DDR3? They are not compatible. 2nd generation computers cannot use third gen parts. cpu, ram, most none of that type stuff. the motherboards are different and cannot change. if it was ddr2 memory you have to use ddr2, not ddr3, hope that helps.

How old is your laptop? if it is over 5-6 months it could be because of a faulty battery. You may want to upgrade or change your battery.

Water pilled in my dell vostro 3500 , i left it to dry for several days and till now it doesn't work , the screen is off even the power is on , and also fan on , light is fine to. what is the pro

The water is inside the machine on the motherboard and is causing a short, I recommend removing the main battery unplug the power supply open up laptop and lay it face down on a thick towel to assorb any moisture coming out from the keyboard, but I strongly suggest a pro take it apart for a cleaning provided the main board can be saved.

The cap lock and scroll lock flashes and the number lock stays lit and it wont start on my Vostro 3500

This indicates a motherboard issue, remove main battery, and unplug the charger from the laptop, now press and hold power button for 60 seconds in hopes to reset the computer. Install battery and charger and turn on.

Dell Vostro 3500 suddenly shut down, start up and works fine, after 2 minutes turn off without any warning message this happened after i installed bios upgrade A10 from dell.com

this is happening because of bios upgrade but not in a bad way. May be there is a hardware problem just starting so new bios upgrade is detecting that and thats why its restarting.

basically sudden shut down occurs in either cases- Fan not working or hard disk(or RAM) gone bad.

my advise is to contact dell customer support and they will guide you thru trouble shooting steps.
they will guide you if your warranty is not there.

Can i upgrade a dell vostro 200 computer to a q8400 cpu

Hi,

unforntuately, these are the only type of processors that the vostro motherboard supports

Intel® Core2 Duo processor
Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core processor
Intel® Celeron® processor

the one that you were asking to use is not compatible since it's a Quad processor.
