That really sucks. Both my HP cd-writer and my lg dvd drive went bad
atthe same time. I bet it was an ESD surge. the dvd drive wasn't
thatold. I wonder if the next one I get can have an ESD surge
    protectionmechanism built into it.

Really the ONLY thing one can do.. is replace the unit with another know good working one.. IE:New. Usually a GOOD CD/DVD will instantly & always work... it will be picked up by windows and then the appropriate "Drivers" installed. As an IDE CD/DVD is "Generic" it generally doesn't require a "Special" Driver, so windows uses it's "Own" driver. Therefore generally if it's showing as OK in Windows, but is NOT going... then, usually, as I said, it is kaput.. for some reason... usually the laser Diode or Quadrant detector...

My pc does not see cd in uj-852

Open your chassis and blow out the dust with compressed air. Accumulated dust can make electronic components (like chips in a computer) heat up so much that they fail. Luckily, in my experience, after the dust is gone, the component will become functional once again.

Cant install windows xp on packard bell pav80 mini 10 "

i have the same problem with the 3 pc here in my shop 1st problem is DVD/cd Drive can't read the CD even the CD is new and no scratches. but if i tried plug it to other computer and load other cd its working so i had a conclusion that the CD drive is choosing what DVD/CD to read. so i change the DVD drive

now it's ok it can read my window xp service pack3 and now its loading but the 2nd problem is, when window xp load it will suddenly stop and displaying error saying missing boot.sys.dll press escape to exit.

now if this the same problem you are having. check your memory card.it seems that it has some inconsistency issues thy testing it using a memory card testing tools or have it replace

i wish my little knowledge may help you
rate me up if this solve your problem and let me know if i did help you
tnx

JLMS DVD-ROM XJ-HD166 DVD/CD ROM Drive does not acknowledge disc in drive after having the computer set back to factory

Does it not acknowledge dvd disc only or cd or dvd both. If it doesn't read the dvd disc, or able to play dvd disc, but able to exlpore regular cd's, then you have a codec error, and you need to download a dvd codec like powerdvd for it for your system to play dvd disc. Check to see if your dvd-rom drive appears in the "my computer" window, if it is there, but wouldn't be able to play anything, then it could be a driver issue. so make sure in the hardware , the drivers is installed and working properly. If it is working properly and driver is installed, then you got a bad drive, the optical laser lenses isnt reading or the spindle ain't working anymore if you don't hear disc being loaded when inserting the disc.

Your operating system may have missed the driver needed to make the cd run properly. You better re-install or repair your operating system.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. The DVD drive has stopped working, It works correctly with a lens cleaner disc. but when I try any other disc I get the following message '' windows cannot read from...

Load a CD in the drive then go to My Computer and right click on the drive letter. Now click on explore and see if it opens the folders on the CD. If it can not read the CD files then you may need to replace the drive. Check that the driver is properly loaded and windows recognized the drive properly. Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager then select the CD Drive to see the status of the driver. If it has an error you may need to replace the driver. Another thing to do is go into the Bios setup when starting the computer and see if the Drive is recognized properly. While you are in the Device Manager look at the tab for "Region" which should be set for Region 1. If it is not set for 1 it would cause this problem. Good Luck

DDW-081 CD\DVD Recorder can't read CD

It is possible for your optical drive to read only DVDs and not CD. This is most likely a fault with your drive and may need a repair or replacement.

Yamaha CRW3200E DVD/CD-ROM drive recognized in bios yet will not burn DVD/CD. Using XP SP2, with Nero Express 6. Display screen name becomes CD-RW Drive. Is it possible the drive is dead, and the computer...

The drive is CD-RW, not DVD-RW. Could the disk image be too big? Are you using CD-RW media instead of DVD-RW? Just going by the specs online, this drive does not work with DVD media, not even to read.
Provided the media is correct and the disk image(s) are correctly sized, I would check the hardware properties to make sure Windows is seeing it properly. The writing function is specific to the drive, but the read functions are more generic. Since no updates will come from Microsoft, you are limited to using the driver disk to install this. Without a driver installed properly, this likely won't burn CD's.
If the driver software is installed, and the media and files match up, and it still does not work, it's likely a bust. While it might have been great when new, this drive was produced around 2001. There are too many things that can go wrong for it to last this long. If it reads, you are lucky. If it writes, buy a lottery ticket. I've seen many newer drives come and go.
