I bought the thermal fuse kit for this dryer (2 THERMAL FUSES)and replaced both of them. It came with an extra fuse for a gas dryer. It now works fine. Lift the top open. One is toward the rear of the dryer, the other is below the heating element as the other solution said.

SOURCE: where is the thermal fuse located?

In the back of the dryer. Look for the coiled heaters and follow the lead wires back to the fuse.

SOURCE: Location of Thermal Fuse

The thermal fuse is located near the heating element. The part number for the replacement kit is LA-1053. You can view an illustrated parts break down of your dryer at Just type in your model number and locate item 5 under the "Heater" section. Pay close attention to the instructions in the thermal fuse replacment kit. One thermostat is for a GAS dryer, one is for an ELECTRIC dryer. Read the instructions and make sure you use the correct one. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

My maytag centennial dryer takes almost two hours to dry a load, it is electric I was wondering if I can convert it to gas? Model # MEDC400VW0

No. Among many issues is that the control board is different. But why not fix the unit so it dries as is normal in under an hour. Half of your 240 volts is out? Your heating element is bad. Your fan is loose.

My centennial dryer MEDC200XW1 wont start.

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

There are several reasons your dryer will not start.
1.) Bad door switch?
2.) Plugged up with lint?
3.) Thermal fuse?

a.) On the back of your dryer is a hot air distribution manifold. It is easily un-bolted to remove. In the bottom of this manifold dryers get plugged up with lint. If you have a air flow problem your unit will shut down.

Your unit will also not run if you have a bad door switch.

But, here is where I am going to put my money on as your problem.

High limit thermostat on your heater element in the back of your unit.

  • The thermostat is functional to 221 degrees (Fahrenheit).
  • Install the thermostat in your dryer's heater element housing box. Be sure your dryer is unplugged during installation.
This High-Limit Thermostat part #3977767 Cost: $15.00

You can replace this part yourself.

Get back to me if this does not solve you problem. You cab jump the door switch.

My dryer is not putting out heat,i dont know what to do?

The front panel has a little plastic cover over a peep hole to check the gas valve operation. You can pry that off and watch to see if the ignitor is getting super red hot to light the gas. In some cases you need to replace the thermal fuse due to overheating(usually blocked vent causes that). The thermal fuse is small, plastic, rectangular shaped, and located on the exhaust outlet area. It has two wire connectors. Remove one and check for continuity. If you read open then replace that and check for ignitor operation. Make sure your vent hose is not kinked and is as short as possible. Use a metal flex hose or duct tube. Stay away from vinyl or plastic as they are a big fire hazzard.
