i had a 2148. you remove the mower deck as the first step. feed the belt over the pulley on top the transmission, then put it over the engine pulley. then have someone push the clutch pedal in so the tensioner pulley moves, put the belt in the guide pulley and on the tensioner. release the clutch put the deck back on and you are good to go. notice there are little keepers welded to the frame for the front, engine, pulley and it is easy to mistakenly put the belt over them instead of under them.
a general rule is that a pulley shaped like a Vee takes the V of the belt whilst a pulley which is flat takes the flat back of the belt. if you bear that in mind you will not have a problem putting belts back on. also there is a little decal on top the deck showing how the deck belt and deck drive belt go.
drop the deck and take a long look at the drive belt. somewhere along its path you will see a spring loaded arm with a pulley on the end. that arm is the tensioner, if it is not keeping adequate tension on the transmission end of the belt then either you are using the wrong belt, the spring has been taken off and put back on wrong, or the spring has just lost its springiness. You are going to have to figure out which problem and remedy it. Mower parts are common and are sold at small engine repair shops which you can find in the phone book or with a google search.
one other possibility is that someone has removed the drive belt and put it on incorrectly. there are generally guides close in around the front pulley to keep the belt from jumping off, and it has happened before that someone has unknowingly put a new belt on over instead of under the guide. you have to look close to see this.
sounds like they forgot to put a deck drive belt back on it, or they forgot to hook the wire back up to the PTO unit which engages the deck drive belt when you turn on the mower. a visual inspection should reveal which. i would call the foreman at the shop and ask him to drop by a take a look at it so he can fix it and go back and chew some ***.
Unfortunately there is no easy way to do that.I find that removing the seat and rear fenders is the best way to get at the engine pulley.I remove the deck and the deck belt then drop the belt from the engine to the front.Make sure to get the belt inside the tension pulley before you put it on the front pulley. You will need a small pry bar or large screw driver to get the belt on the last pulley. Before you use one of those wrap it in an old rag or some leather(old belts work)to keep from damaging the belt.I would suggest replacing the deck belt while you are down there,I always change both as it is not much fun to change the belts.
There should be 4 pulleys.2on the deck that are above the blades, put the belt on those first.
There should be a tension pulley, with the engine OFF,look on top of the deck and engage the blades.Note the direction the tension pulley moves, the belt must pass inside that pulley. Now disengage the blades and put the belt on the engine pulley.
Drive belts can be a pain. You are going to have to drop the deck belt out of the way and sometimes drop the front of the deck to be able to get the belt up around the front pulley. Feed it through the belt guards if possible...if not, you are going to have to loosen or remove the guards to get the belt where it is needed. Then loop around rear pulley, tighten guards, hook up deck and replace deck belt. www.nnyparts.com
The belt run between the crankshaft and the transmission. Pull the spark plug wire off, Take the plastic cover off the top of the deck; Look underneath the deck, you will see a bracket that keeps that protects the belt. it will have to be loosened. get the belt around the blade, loop it around the pulley under the deck, put it thru the hole to the front and loop it around the transmission pulley. put everything back together and your done. Good Day.
you need to drop the deck from it to remove the pullie get you two big blocks put them on the side under the deck remove front pin and bolt ,the remove the two leveing rod pins the deck will drop out you may need help getting it from under it get a friend to help reinstall in the same steps.... good luck
you need to drop the back side of the deck from the mounts ,this will allow you to put the belt on the pully's.then lift the deck back into place and reinsert the pins to complete the belt installatoin.hope this helps
I usually jack up the front of the tractor and drop the deck as far down as it will go and have at it. You only have to remove a few belt guards and a rod or two and route the belt around the pulleys.Remember the v part of the belt goes in the v pulleys and the flat part of your new belt goes on the flat pulleys. And be sure to look at the diagram on the deck or in your manual.Hope this will help you. donnyb60
