Question about Ford Vehicle Parts & Accessories

I have a 2000 Ford Windstar 3.8. I have repalced 2 fuel injectors, plugs and wires, coil pack, mass air flow sensor, and upper and lower intake plenum and gaskets I still have a missfire and lean codes what else can i do

Look at fuel trim with a professional scanner
If it is different on one side of the motor, then
find out why
How about doing a cylinder leak down test
I would be willing to bet you have a valve problem
Probably rich in the converter & being driven lean
by pcm to correct fuel trim.

p0304 = Number 4 Cylinder Misfire Detected

Faulty spark plug 4
Clogged or faulty fuel injector 4
Faulty ignition coil 4
Fuel injector 4 harness is open or shorted
Fuel injector 4 circuit poor electrical connection
Ignition coil 4 harness is open or shorted
Ignition coil 4 circuit poor electrical connection
Insufficient cylinder 4 compression
Incorrect fuel pressure
Intake air leak

The P0304 code means that the cylinder 4 is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks an if no leaks are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs on cylinder 4.


p0102 = Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input

Faulty mass air flow sensor
Intake air leaks
Dirty mass air flow sensor
Dirty mass air filter
Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
Mass air flow sensor circuit poor electrical connection

Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner.
Reset code and drive vehicle.
If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor.


p0154 = O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected Sensor 1 Bank 2

Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2
Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 harness is open or shorted
Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection
Inappropriate fuel pressure
Faulty fuel injectors
Intake air leaks may be faulty
Exhaust gas leaks

Replacing the Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 usually takes care of the problem.


p0113 = Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit High

Faulty Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor
Dirty air filter
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor harness is open or shorted
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor circuit poor electrical connection

The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is built into mass air flow sensor or in some vehicles mounted to the air filter duct housing. The sensor detects intake air temperature and transmits a signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM).The temperature sensing unit uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. Electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases in response to the temperature rise. The Intake Air Temperature signal is used as an input for various systems in the vehicle.

P0172 is Fuel Trim System Rich Bank 1, Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor

P0304 is Cylinder # 4 Misfire,
Known Failure Points:
1. Plugs- specifically Bosch Platinum plugs tend to self-destruct
2. Ignition Control Module- Kinda a "go" or "no-go" type thing. When it fails, you most likely won't be able to start your car.
3. Coil Pack Housing (usually white, some aftermarket are black) - Seems like an unlikely part to go, but from what I hear the plastic can breakdown and cause crossfiring.
4. Coil Pack- Haven't had a bad one yet, but it's entirely possible.
5. Plug Boots- If they're old, they might dry out and crack due to the high heat they are exposed to. Again, not very likely, but when all else fails.

ok so much done owell next is the mass air flow to be checked then the fuel regulator to check pressure and the fuel pump for pressure and then check the cat,s for back pressure wood be my next thing and Last is the how many Km,s does it Have ?sounds like filter needs lookin at in the tranny if she,s got High Km,s if not then check the intake for leaks it,s Plastic so don,t hurt gone this far Let me Know What Happens,s Thank,s

Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.

MANY THINGS WILL CAUSE THAT PROBLEM.SCAN IT CHECK FOR FAULTY MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR.BAD COIL + SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.DIRTY CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS.LOW FUEL PRESSURE CAUSED BY CLOGGED FUEL FILTER.AIR LEAK AT THE AIR DUCT TO THE THROTTLE BODY.

Coil pack and new plugs and wires would be my advice .I have a 2001 windstar and that what mine was doing and coil pack and plugs and wires fixed mine

Inspect Carburetor Dirty and Improperly Functioning Carburetor. Inspect Carburetor Incorrect Carburetor Adjustment. Inspect Carburetor Worn, Faulty or Damaged Carburetor. Inspect EGR Valve EGR Valve Sticking Open/Leaking. Inspect Idle Air Control Valve IAC Valve Sticking or Faulty. Inspect Mass Air Flow Sensor Damaged, Loose, or Faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor or Circuit Inspect FreshAir Intake Hose Clogged or Damaged FreshAir Intake Hose. Misfiring


Well there are several things that could cause this problem...

1. one of the coils may not be firing.
2. the ignition module could be bad.
3. the mass air flow sensor could be tellign the car to run rich (too much gas)
4. if the car is equiped with a map sensor it could do the same as a mass air flow sensor.
5. fuel pressure regulator could be leaking at vacuum port drawing in more fuel than needed.
6. the computer itself could be bad as well.

The car either has a map sensor or mass air flow not both. The mass air flow would be right after the air cleaner housing usually a 4 wire connector. map sensor is normally located on the rear of the upper intake manifold with 1 vacuum line going to it with 3 wire connector. Hope this helps.
