SOURCE: How to replace the mainboard on my pioneer pdp

Lay the TV on a soft flat surface, then you just have to remove the stand and all the screws on the back, then the board mounting screws and connectors. Best thing to do is to take a lot of pictures so you will know how it goes back together. Mark the connectors with marking pen also.
Also look for any bad caps with domed tops when you are at it as well.

SOURCE: the hdmi inputs for my

Unfortunately the HDMI inputs are on the main board, so the circuit board you would need to replace to fix this is the most expensive one in the set.

Here is a link to a replacement main board for your TV that is currently available on Ebay for about $100 US:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Pioneer-PDP-5080HD-Main-Unit-Board-ANP2180-A-/120758132179?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1dbeddd3

Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information and item at the website indicated.

When you remove the rear cover and access the circuit boards inside, just check the part number that is printed right on your main board itself and confirm that it exactly matches the one provided in the Ebay listing before purchasing the part.
Please comment back here to this page if you have any details to add, have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck and take care.

Joe.

Can't seem to get the av and hdmi inputs to work ?n my pioneer pdp 507xd plasma

Make sure the cable is plugged into input 5 if your tv is on input 5. Make sure that you don't need to be on the AV input. I suggest using a hdmi cable also to bring the resolution up to 1080p. Make sure the wire isn't shorted also.

I don't have a direct solution but I am having the same problem when connecting (1) my Apple TV (2) my Blu-Ray player, etc. via HDMI. I also have a digital camera that puts out HDMI, and when I hook it up, I get the same story -- video only, no sound through the optical digital output of the TV receiver.

I am guessing that the HDMI inputs were an afterthought on this model, especially since the printed manual doesn't even show or mention the HDMI inputs at all! So my guess is that the TV's receiver does not convert the sound from the HDMI to the optical digital output. It does, however, send the amplified HDMI sound to the stereo speaker outputs on the monitor. It appears that only the digital tuner's 5.1 sound comes out on the optical digital output.

This is what I have observed, for what it's worth.

Hi.

To start ensure that each time you connect or disconnect the HDMI ports both TV and connected device are off.

Also ensure that HDMI input is active, as detailed here.

HDMI connectors carry voltage, and connecting the HDMI cable while TV or device is on may easily damage the HDMI port, making it unusable.

The HDMI 3 and Component 3 are separate input. The component input may work, and HDMI port may still be defective.

To test the port do the following:

Disconnect TV power cord, and connected device (eg. Receiver, DVD etc.).
Leave units disconnected for five minutes.

While power is disconnected, test connecting on port three a device that was previously working on HDMI 1. Also use a cable that you know is working.

Connect back power with HDMI cable already connected. If HDMI 3 is still not detected, then the port is defective.

In that case ring Pioneer at the number listed on the owners manual. This model is often advertised as only two HDMI inputs. Call Pioneer to ensure the third port can be enabled.
