Question about Garden
John Deere GX255 with 54 inch deck. Engine will not stay running when i release the brake. As long as the brake is on it runs. Release it and the engine shuts down. The ignition controller has a red led lit, the board smell like something burned up. I dont know if the board is the issue or did something else take it out. Im going to try and bypass the seat switch. Looked at Deere's parts list but its not clear which is the seat switch.
For sure the seat switch is the likely problem. The logic is if the brake is set the engine will start and run. If the brake is released and no driver in seat a saftey situation is possible and the engine turns off. Check seat switch, Bi pass to troubleshoot.
Hope this helps?

Looked up detailed isometric diagram w/ parts denoted on John Deere website. FixYa website was a litele misleading. I did not realize that accessing a question posted "for free" would cost me something to get the answer. It's kind of like askin a neighbor as a neighbor to give you a hand and then he sends a bill.
Thanks but no thanks

First check the seat switch, make sure it is plugged in tightly, these plugs have a safety tab built into them that will cut the engine off if you unhook it,sometimes the plug latch pulls out slightly and this will cut the engine, There are two other switches in the system one on the foot clutch and on on the mower clutch, if you follow the white wire from you ignition switch it will lead you to both of them, check those connections also.
