I have your solution, it is registry problem, boot up your pc, when it stops at the black screen with my documents open hit ctrl+alt+delete and then click on task manager, run a new task from "File" called explorer, so you will bring up the desktop.
Here is how to fix the blank screen with cursor:
Most likely a damaged or altered registry entry. Click start, find run & click, then type
'regedit' and hit <enter>. Expand the keys at left to reach:
Click on this key, then locate the shell string in the right pane. Double
click it, (Something missing or added here) replace the contents with just:
Click ok, then close the registry editor and reboot.

Remove the CMOS battery from you system. Be careful, the system should be turned off before doing this.
Reinsert the battery, and the password as well as the user will be reset.
