Question about Dell Latitude D630 Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2M L2 Cache, 800MHz Dual Core 80GB/512... PC Notebook
When I turn it on it boots up into windows (XP) and shuts down 3-4 minutes later. It is saying HD issues but can it be a motherboard ? Please can you help me with this problem.
Hi, when your laptop shuts off after running for 3-4 minutes, does the computer reboot and attempt to reload or go back into Windows? or does it just shut off and stay off?

It could be the motherboard, but it is more likely to be a hard drive. Back up anything you need as soon as possible and replace the drive and re-install the operating system(Windows)

Most laptops that I have worked on that power off that quickly turned out to be an overheating problem. Is the cooling fan running for the brief period that you can hear the hard drive before it powers off ? If the fan is running another potential resolution might be to remove the processor and apply new thermal paste.

SOURCE: not going in window xp
The error code indicates that your hard drive is failing. If the laptop is still under warranty, contact Dell for support. If not, I would suggest trying to get it booted one more time and copying everything you want to keep off of it. Then, look for a new 2.5" hard drive on Geeks.com or TigerDirect.com (some place like that). Either way, the hard disk is probably on its last leg. I hope this helps!

For the video drivers you might try the intel generic drivers for xp these should work here is the process.
For the audio use the latest vista driver and then follow the steps here.
The latest driver in combination with f you are using Microsoft Windows XP*, you may need to first install KB888111.exe, the Microsoft* UAA High Definition Audio Package version 1.0a. should work.

SOURCE: I have the same problem D830
Seems to me if it ran normally until powered down that the motherboard would have to be functioning, no? It's a boot or startup problem, but there are all kinds of hardware and software issues that could cause that. Have you tried booting into safe mode or last known good configuration by pressing F8 as it boots up?
Try going to Dell support and enter your service tag # and see if there are any service bulletins or advisories for your laptop, then maybe search the Dell forums for reports of the same. If the motherboard was an issue on your model, you'll find some forum posts about it.
See also Dell support for your boot problem here.
If you get it booted up again, you might like to take a look at the event viewer and device manager and see if there are errors or warnings posted that indicate software or hardware problems on your system. Also consider running the Dell diagnostics utility (see here) to check the system health. And run chkdsk to scan the hard drive for corruption. (instructions here and here)
Malware removal protocols I'd recommend as a check here.
Good general troubleshooting for windows here and startup here.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
