Question about Frigidaire Dishwashers

Open Question

Upper rail out of track

The left rail for the upper rack is held in place between two pairs of plastic wheels mounted to the wall of the dishwasher. After unloading, I noticed the rail is only being held in place by the front pair of the two wheels. To close the front rack can be slid back into place, but the rail is displaced beside the rear pair of wheels. Clearly, this my cause damage to the front pair, especially when loading the top rack. What is the easiest and cheapest way for a fix? Thanks in advance.

Solved the problem. 1. Removed the two rail caps on the front. 2. Removed the upper rack. 3. Unclipped rear stopper on misaligned left rail. 4. Repositioned rail between rear plastic wheels. 5. Replaced rear rail stopper, rack, and front rail stoppers on both sides.

SOURCE: I have Kitchen Aid Dishwasher

I removed the tracks from inside the dishwasher.  Then I was able to carefully remove the endcaps (something I had not been able to do previously) carefully.  The existing broken wheels slid out and I slid two new brackets into each track.   If I attached the tracks to the rack first, I would not be able to clip them into place, so I first replaced the endcaps and then returned the tracks to their positions inside the dishwasher. Reattaching the upper rack is not difficult, but takes two people while I connected the left side, my assistant supported the rack on the right side.  I then connected the right side of the rack.  I slide the rack back and forth to macke sure that is worked smoothly.  We then loaded the dishwasher and washed our dishes as we had in the past.

SOURCE: Not cleaning upper rack

You'll need to clean the food chopper in the base. Make sure you've got a torx screwdriver.

SOURCE: Dishwaher does not clean, upper rack

The top rack is not cleaning because of low water pressure from the wash motor to the upper spray arm.
Assuming the top spray arms are clear of debris, remove the lower spray arm to access the wash motor. Remove the 4 torx screws and the filter (accumulator assembly). Remove the torx screw and the inlet protector that covers the chopper assembly. Make sure the chopper is not broken (broken chopper will fill with debris and block water flow). While holding the chopper blade, reach inside the "D" shaped opening on top of the motor and spin the wheel/motor by hand in each direction to make sure either the chopper gear or the motor gear that drives the chopper is not broken. Replace the chopper if necessary (part # 8268383). If the motor gear is broken, replace the sump and motor assembly (part # 8535150). Remove any debris from the sump area in the process.
You don't have to shut the power off to the dishwasher because the door will be open, but if you feel more comfortable, do so.
Good luck!

SOURCE: upper spray arm broke off

I hope it did not break, only came off. I had the same problem. You have to unscrew the round part from the ceiling of the dishwasher, put the three pieces together, easy, and then screw the whole thing back. No tools needed. Top rack can stay on while working. It helps if the dishwasher is empty. If the threading is good, this should solve the problem.

How to replace the top rollers on a GE dishwasher model # gsm1800nww

Lower Rack

  • Remove all of the dishes from the lower dishwasher rack.

Replace upper basket and bearings on Asko dishwasher 1805

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Yes the upper rack is pretty straight forward, but the bearings are tricky.

Here's what works for me, move the rack stops to the left if you haven't already and then the rack itself.

i.e.

1d854c5.jpg and

cb82cce.jpg

Now you'll need to remove the bumpers at the back of the rack rail...

i.e.

push down on the bumper as shown

a6e3c04.jpg
and pull it down and out at the same time...it takes some force as evident by my finger tip ha ha, you can use a small screwdriver...I'm just stubborn.

045c1a4.jpg
Now you'll need to slide the rail all the way out as shown, but careful not to let the ball bearings fall into the sump area in the process.

d5605f4.jpg
I usually hold the broken piece in place while removing the rail...

391dc9f.jpg

The trick now is to install the balls into the holders first...

9177d05.jpg
and the holders into the stationary part of the rail on the inside wall...

9c58331.jpg

The inside wall rail will keep the holders in place as you slide the inside rail into place...this will usually require holding the holder with one hand while pushing the sliding rail back into place...

2b91ed0.jpg

Once this is done, re-install the back rail bumpers followed by the rack and then finally the front rack stoppers and that should do it.

Hope that explain it for you or gives you an idea of how it needs to be done.

Thanks for visitng "fixya" today for your repair help. Let me know if you require further assistance.

Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

P.S.

I should also mention you as I alluded to, be sure none of the old 8 ball bearings didn't fall down into either the drain pump or circulation/wash pump. This is something I've seen far too often on Asko dishwashers with the end result being a broken impeller in either pump...or both, yikes ! I use a telescopic magnet to fish around as it will be the only object made of metal...unless something else has fallen in the sump well area, it's good to check.

Again, good luck :)

How do you install the end cap #wd12x344

Use a pair of needle nose pliers. Gently bend the end of the rack opening out just a little. The cap will snap in place. Gently bend the rack tubing back in.

2 upper rack rollers cracked in Maytag #MDB7600AWS - cant find simple replacement rollers for inside track - 1 1/4" - of upper rack.

JP Weld works great on repairing these junky Maytag parts. Note that they don't have a replacement for these upper wheels and a guy is selling expensive stainless steel replacements. The round connector broke off of ours that holds the wheel to the rack. My wife found a plastic button that fit within the space and we glued it with JP Weld epoxy (water and temperature resistant). 10 washes later, still working great! I expect it will "heal" any other plastic parts. NEVER will I buy a Maytag again!

Bearings on the right side upper rack slide

I removed the plastic bearing holder on the under side of the slide. I know it did not fix the problem, but it eliminated the bind that would not allow the rack to slide out completely. Thanks

Top rack is not level. Glasses and cups roll forward

I assume that the bottom rack is level and the upper rack is not.
On the LG dishwashers, you can remove the upper rack by removing the little gray clip at the front of the rails. Each will fall off in your hands. You can then pull the basket out.
Place it on the floor and confirm that all wheels roll properly and all touch evenly. Resolve any problems on the rack via LG service parts.
Inspect the rails still inside the dishwasher, confirm that they are paralel and level.
Replace the upper basket carefully, making sure the wheels all slide into the rail evenly.
Please update me on what was done to finally resolve the problem.

Upper rack travel sticks and jams.....

you have a bad bearing retainer. you will need to call an asko parts dealer and order 8 upper rack ball bearings, and two ball bearing guides (they are grey plastic and break over time, causing the rack to jam. To replace tham, you must take the upper rack out by turning the plastic retainers on the front of both rails 90 degrees towards the outside of the machine. The slide the whole basket out. Now look at the back of the rails inside the dishwasher. there shoul be 2 more grey plastic retainers with bumpers on them in the rear. These must be pried out wiht a screwdriver (be careful, have cut myself several times on this job till i figured out the best way to do it. cover the bottom hole in the dishwasher with a rag, as you are likely to drop the old bearings when you slide the rails out. Slide out both the rails. Put your new (or old if youve got all 8) ball bearings into the ball bearing holders, then put the holders into the rail thats attached to the dishwasher. slide the rails back in, andthen put all your retainers back in and your rack. you may have to slide the rack in and out a few times before it will center the bearings and work smoothly. Should cost you about $12 in parts. Good Luck!
