Fans are blowing instead of extracting!!!

Hello, I just installed a brand new extract hood but the fans blow instead of "sucking". My electrician assures me that as a single-phase appliance you cannot wire it to the wrong polarity; and reversing the nuetral and live won't do anything. Any ideas? I can hear the flue clicking open when I turn it on, and the lights and controls work. If I take the filters out I can see the fan blades turning clockwise... Thanks in advance!!

Qasair CM900 Rangehood Motor not working properly

I have a twin motor Qasair Heritage 1200mm wide canopy and recently noticed (after 8 years of great service) that one of the motors was having a difficult time getting to high speed compared to the other. Turns out that it is indeed a faulty capacitor. I had the service tech out from Condari, and both capacitors replaced, restoring the high speed function to both fans. Call out fee was $99, each capacitor $15 and labour amounted to $25 for a grand total of $154. Very happy to hear the full force of the fans again! Here is a picture of the old capacitor, which is housed inside the metal box on the side of the fan unit.

Fan blows air down instead of pulling up

Sounds like the motor is wired backwards. You'd probably want to get an electrician in to take the motor out and rewire it.

I just had a Broan Elite E662 hood installed and it is blowing out instead of pulling air in. I held a tissue up to the filter and it does not pull it up...rather it blows it down. Was something done...

It sounds like the fan blade may be installed upside down, or the entire motor/fan assembly is upside down. Typically, these small motors aren't reversible, so you should check the blade first.

A local small contractor installed our Kobe RA3830SQ Range Hood a few days ago. We have not been too impressed with the efficiency of the fan. Today I noticed that it seems to blow out instead of sucking...

Hoods should blow out from the chimney, its defianately not a wiring problem. If it is blowing down towards your cooker instead of sucking up then you should contact Range as it could be a manufacturing fault.

How easy is installation of a Rangemaster chimney hood?

There is a template supplied for drilling holes in the appropriate places. If it is a large hood over 900mm best to have a friend help you. Most important is to check that the bottom of the hood is at least 750mm above the gas burners. Definately use a qualified eletrician to wire this for you.

Brand new Kenmore microwave fan does not **** up air

It's easier to notice air blowing out of something than it is to notice air being sucked into something. Put a pot of boiling water on the stove and see if the oven sucks up the steam from it. If it does, it's working fine.

Blow back istead of suck out

This installation guide on the Jenn-Air web site does not provide electrical details, but there are two possible problems here.

1. - The fan could be installed backwards...or it moves air the wrong way

2. - The power wires might be connected incorrectly.

My best guess is that the fan uses a standard ac-powered motor, so the polarity of the wiring would not affect the direction it turns. If that is true, then the most likely problem is that the fan is installed incorrectly.

Good luck...and I hope this is helpful!!
