Door frame around freezer door is very hot for a long time in side-by-side refrigerator/freezer

The door frame around freezer door is very hot -almost too hot to touch- for a long time in side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. The freezer stays about 32F and the frig at 45F. We have unplugged and replugged in the frig and cleared and reset the controls in order to reset the defrost cycle. I checked the defroster in the back of the freezer compartment and it was not on yet the freezer door frame was very hot. I then unplugged the bi-metal strip that controls the defroster and the same thing happened. it is a Kenmore Elite Coldspot 106.54606300 [Whirlpool[. It seems like there is heater/warmer around the door to stop moisture that is running uncontrolled. Is it electric - like a heat tape? What controls it? How do I check this? If it is a heat tape, can it be replaced? How do we access it? The metal case seems to be one large piece. I can't see how to open up between the inner plastic shell and the outer metal covering.

The problem you describe is caused by the hot gas pipe that runs around the cabinet, this is normal for it too get warm, the only reason it would be very hot is that for some reason the gases are not being cooled, probable cause is that the condenser is blocked with dust or fluff, depending on axact version some are located behind the plastic trim that runs below the doors and others are in the back behind the lower rear panel. LG gc-151sa fridge works on. But door frame get hot what is this

Door frame around the freezer compartment is heated to prevent condensation around the door frame during high humidity conditions.

During times that Air Conditioning Or Heating are used in the house, the relative humidity is low and the "energy savings" switch may be turned on - that will turn the heater OFF.
WARNING: if you accumulate sweat around the door frame, you must turn the heat back on to prevent rust and damage to door gasket

Exterior of refrigerator between freezer and refrigerator is hot to the touch

It is normal unless there is a lot of dust below your refrigerator blocking airflow. What you feel is hot gas tubes behind the surface of the metal to help reduce moisture around the door frame and door seals that will get hotter should the fan and condenser below refrigerator have a blockage of dust blocking airflow, Sea Breeze.

The top & sides of freezer outer housing getting quiet hot,but only near the door,ps-have the red light alert & rest seems ok,so going to try the defrost stuff.

If you remove the rear panel inside the freezer and examine the evaporator while running you will most times see a few rows of the evaporator with clear ice and the rest will be sweating water droplets. That is what a leak in the Freon will cause and look like. When the door frame gets hot it is sometimes caused by a defective condenser fan or blocked air flow and also reduce cooling. Warm is normal around door frame because you have hot gas flowing there to reduce sweating around doors. I will be here to answer any questions you may have, Thanks Sea Breeze

Very hot between doors

Warm in that area is normal because heated Freon travels around the door frame on most refrigerators because it prevents sweating between the cold inside of refrigerator and the cold air inside of freezer The problem of getting hot may indicate a defective condenser fan or the air below refrigerator is obstructed by dust. Check those two things and if you have any question I will be here to answer them for you. If helpful please rate this solution, Thanks Sea Breeze

Freezer door does not close properly

inspect the seal all the way around the door. check to make sure that it is not in a bind when you open and close the door. if it is you can try a little wd40 or silicone spray on the gasket and frame of the refrigerator where the gasket meets the frame. this will help it slide accros the frame better.

if the gasket is bound up and out of shape, you can heat it up with very hot water to straighten it.

make sure that you keep the gasket and the door facing clean. spillage from the use of the refrigerator/freezer can cause the gasket to stick especially at the bottom.

Front metal , top heating element very hot

This should be OK. There are heat strips placed behind the door frame to prevent sweating around the door frame due to the metal being cold normally without the strips. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Door frame is always hot on freexer side

Is it hot all the way around, or just on the face of the divider between the freezer and fridge? If it's just the divider, then it's probably not a defrost problem. When that divider gets hot, it usually means there is inadequate air flow over the condenser coils outside the unit.

When the compressor is running, check for air blowing under the unit. If no air is moving, then you probably have a failed condenser fan. If the fan is running, then use your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils, and make sure there is space behind the fridge for air to flow.

Area around freezer door is very hot to the touch. ice maker works, but after awhile the ice will melt. freezer is freezing.

HI, That area being hot is a sign the refigerator is not cooling properly. We need to pin point the cooling problem.
First, are you noticing any frost build up inside the rear freezer panel?
Are the fans and the compressor running?
Please let me know so I can assist you through this.

Refridgerator top freezer exterior wall hot

Folow these steps. It's worth a try.
1.Pull the fridge out from the wall and unplug it.
2. Clean the dust and lint off the compresser and everything else.
3. Also clean under the fridge.
4. The frame around the freezer door should cool down.

If the cooling fan was stuck , that may also be a cause for your refrigerator wall becoming hot.Check that too.
Hope My info is useful....Bye
