Re: Bad Disk

If you find that the DVD is not spinning it might means that the the "spinner" is not functioning, the sound you hear is the laser moving up and down trying to read your DVD but since is not spinning it can not read it. You will need to replace the small motor that operates the spinner, after extensive use they just give up. I hope this is helpful enough.

Try cleaning the laser lens. Either opening the unit and cleaning with a cotton bud, or try a lens cleaning disk.

Says "No Disc"

If you have put a dvd disk in your dvd player, and it says "no disc" then try cleaning it with a dvd cleaning disk. It could be that the eye of your dvd player is dirty. You can get a dvd cleaner at any department store.

If you have put a dvd disk in your dvd player and its a home made or "burnt" disk and your player says "no disc", it usually means that the disk is the wrong format to be played on your dvd player. Try another disk.

If you have not put any disk in your dvd player, and it says "no disc" its just telling you that there is no dvd inserted for it to play.

My dvd won't play. every dvd i put in, it says bad disc. the vcr works fine. is it time for a new system. i tried a head cleaner and it says bad disc

Not necessarily time for a new one. I would give the DVD player a good cleaning before you consider a new unit. A good cleaning disk with some little bristles on it. Run it through three full times. DVD players are far more sensitive than VCRs and have to be cleaned even two weeks or so. When they get real dirty it can take some fooling with to get the DVD player to even accept the cleaning disk. But if it just won't accept the cleaning disk and you can't watch a DVD in it then it's time for a new one. I had a DVD player one time that took an hour of fooling around with before it got cleaned good enough to play DVDs. Worked for a couple years afterward.

When I load a disk I get 'Read', then 'No disk'. I have tried several commercial disks, and have tried with each side up. I have looked into the disk slot and cannot see anything which might have been...

If u can't play many of the DVD discs from Hollywood movies,Useally the disc itself the problems or the DVD recorder laser eye it bad.Tries websites like, buy a DVD cleaning kit.Put the disc in follow the directions, clean the laser eye data reader.50/50 chances will solved the disc not reading problems. If not the Laser eye is problems the unit not worth fixing buy a new one.DVD players are not woth the fixing of the Tech. prices.

Bad Disc

Try cleaning the heads qwith a cd/dvd cleaner disk or kit made for this. If the heads are clean and it  still frefuses to reconize the disks, then the heads have become misaligned and yuo wil have to take it someplace to have them realligned.

Disk rotating and a message "invalid disk"

you can try manually cleaning the laser lens ( gently wipe , do not press down hard , it is suspended by fine wires ) using a q-tip and a drop of that cleaning solution you got with the laser lens disc. ( fluff another q-tip a little ) then dry wipe it with another q-tip and try a disc.
you can look at the laser lens and see if you see the laser come on also to determine if that is working ( do not look directly into the laser ! )
if the laser works but it still does not read discs after cleaning it manually , then there is a problem with the focus coil on the laser or the signal board is bad

Displays "No Disc"

It can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. CD/DVD cleaning disk will help
3. Disk is in different formate (for instance NTSC for US but you trying to playback disk in PAL)
4. Disk has different region code (look is the dvd player and disk have the same code, or ALL Regions code)
Good Luck

My dvd recorder keeps ruining blank dvd+r's.

I have suffered the same problems as you describe here. What I believe is this unit suffers from inadequate ventilation. After having this problem I examined the unit and noticed it was hot. What I've done is put 2 small flat blocks on each side of the unit, to basically suspend it so that it can get airflow under and over it, now staying much cooler. Nearly all problems now have gone away. Seldomly, I find it will still exibit the problems mentioned. Frankly the only solution I've found from there is to unplug it for a short while and, upon plugging it back in, and trying again it works flawlessly.
