Re: locating satellite

Initialization time has been greatly reduced with newer system software upgrade for the Garmin GPSMAP 545s. Get your system software upgrade here.

I hope that helps.

Can not acquiring sateilites,and always start in kansas.dDid reset,and a hard reset.Samething.

How long did you leave it out in full view of satellites? In some cases, when the unit is new, you might have to wait 20-30 minutes for it to get an initial connection and to download the location info, etc to the unit. The location reads Kansas because that's where Garmin's head office is located so this is the default location.

Can't get out of Kansas location --- can't locate satellites

Have you taken it outside to see if it needs better skyview to get a lock. I also suggest force feeding it the firmware again. You can use Garmin Webupdater to update the unit. It would of updated when you did the map update install but a file may of been corrupted.

The unit comes on, but it says that the GPS is turned off. It is stuck in Kansas.

Kansas is the default location when the unit comes from the factory or when a factory reset has been made. You haven't mentioned the model you have. Have you opened the antenna and let it acquire a satellite lock? Without a lock it has no way to know where you are.

New Garmin 330 stuck on kansas

Take the unit outside and turn it on. Then select View Maps, at the top of the screen it will say either "Locating satellites" or "Acquiring Satellites". Once the garmin has locked onto the overhead satellites, then it will say "Ready to Navigate".

Locating Satellites take longer than Acquiring Satellites.

No signal

You will have to leave the unit out in the open so it can 'see' the satellites. It might need from 20-30 minutes to acclimatize itself to the new location. It is set at Kansas because that's where the manufacturer is, so that is the last recorded satellite signal.

Can't change location-appears as if still in Kansas despite downloads

You need to go outside and turn on the Garmin until it has acquired a satellite lock (15-20 minutes). Kansas is the default location (Garmin Headquarters). Once you have acquire satellites, the Garmin will remember the last position as the starting position when the power is turned off. You know you have acquire a satellite lock once "Ready to Navigate" appears on the top of the screen.

Location says I'm in Kansas

I got stuck in Kansas also. But, now I'm not in Kansas anymore! Are you trying to set your Garmin up indoors? That was my first problem. Go outdoors and try it. I did that and Toto and I were still in Kansas. SO, I pluged it inot my cigarette lighter and drove down my driveway. It took a few minutes for Garmin to locate a satalite, but once it did I was all set. No problems since, hope it works for you. I really enjoy using my Garmin. I'm one who ofter ends up on the road less traveled so, Garmin has come to my rescue a few times already. Have fun and say hello to the Wizard of Oz for me!

first turn it on and let the unit acquire satellites to find your home state. Then you can set up your address as your "home location". When I first set it up, I was able to pick up the satellites in my bedroom (scary....)...everything worked just fine.

Getting started

Take the unit outside, so it knows where it is (you cannot tell it you want it to go from a location to another without being at one of the locations). Once the unit has a satellite fix, press Where To? Then press Address. When West Virginia and Spell State come up, press Spell State. Enter Florida (or start to, until the unit pulls it up, then press it). Then press Spell City, and enter Crystal River, then the house number and street name or number. Press Go! and you are on your way.
