SOURCE: I have a 15.5 HP Sears Craftsman 42

I'm betting that you need a new safety kill switch - probably the one underneath the seat (the spring-loaded plunger switch that won't let you use the machine without your *** in the seat). Could also be the one behind the "dash" that is associated with the blade engagement mechanism.

I know that the under-seat-switch cannot be bypassed or it will disable the machine in the exact way that you described. Why do I say this? Because I just tried to bypass my own "***-in-the-seat-safety-switch" on my very own 15.5 HP, 42" Sears tractor, and it responded by punishing me - the absense of the switch caused the motor to cut out when I tried to put the machine in gear AND/OR engage the blade. It seems to have some measured capacitance - the absense of same seeming to interrupt the ignition timing enough to shut the motor down when you attempt to get anywhere past neutral or engage the blade. These "safety" switches may be needed by a very few who prefer to be drunk while they mow lawns on steep slopes that their tractor mowers were not designed for, but I find these items to be troublesome and enfuriating. My trees shed a lot of sticks in high winds, and I can't stand shutting the machine down and restarting it EVERY SINGLE TIME I have to dismount to clear sticks or other obstructions out of my mowing path. This is an obnoxious, "nanny-design" feature that desparately needs to be discontinued. It also makes both jump-starting the tractor and electrical troubleshooting much more difficult than they should be. The tractor should let you dismount without shutting down, as long as you have disengaged the blade and shifted into neutral. It should also let you jump start with jumper cables - impossible to do with your rear end in the seat. By the way, call Manufacturer's Supply, Inc. at 1-800-826-8563. They may have a replacement - their item number 31-9664 might do it, but talk to them first. I'm calling them tomorrow. Good luck.

Mower runs fine.when u turn on blades it will die

There is a switch under the seat made to turn off the engine when the blades are "on". You have to be sitting on the seat to engage the blades. If you are, check to see if that switch is plugged into the harness. If it already is, you probably need a new switch, or less likely, but possible, the harness is damaged somewhere up the line.

MOUNTFIELD R25M RIDE ON MOWER 2008, ONCE STARTED, WONT STOP, HELP PLEASE

On a lot of these small engines, the blade also acts as a kind of flywheel to help smooth out the power stoke from the engine.
result? no blade, or blade very loose, engine can be a right pain to start.
I'm not very familiar with the very new mountfields, but it sounds like a standard briggs engine.
If you follow the cable down from the dead mans handle, it will normally end somewhere on the side of the engine. When you pull the handle in, it pulls back a lever that frees a brake shoe, or sometimes a band, that acts against the flywheel. this mechnism stops the engine a bit quicker than wiothout it. it should also act on a small switch in the same area.
I often find that the switch isn't turning working as it should, and needs a gentle adjustment with a pair of pliers.
have a look at this first, but please tighten that blade up for safetys sake!!!!!!

Hello I have a Mountfield MPR10071 46" power mower with a Honda GCV 135 4.5 engine just bought it second hand and its fine other than if you let go of the cutting lever it stalls! is it supost to do this ?...

I suspect you mean the OPC (operator presence control) lever? This is a safety feature - if you let go, the blades stop. Since your mower does not have a blade clutch, this means the engine stops.

All walk-behinds HAVE to have this feature if manufactured after (I think) 2002 in the UK - similar rules apply elsewhere.

There's no easy way to disable it - if you tie up the handle so you can empty the grass catcher with the engine running, you will find that you have no way of stopping the engine.

Ride on Mountfield Lawn mower 1228H - engine cuts out

Check to make sure there is no obstruction in the blades or on top of the deck where the belt goes. Also check that your pulleys turn freely and that a bearing didn't freeze up.
Let me know if this helps.

Cub cadet Z Force 48 inch zero turn blades won't engage

I hope this will help you...under the side panels on each side of the mower, there are "reverse lockout safety switches", they are supposed to stop the blades when both handles are pulled back. If one or both of the switches are out, the deck will not engage. Also, under the right side panel (when sitting on seat) there should be 3 relay switches, the one closest to the motor controls the PTO., if this is out, the PTO will not engage.
