If you're using ethanol-blended fuel, the ethanol will eat away at the neoprene parts inside the Briggs carb.Going to need a carb rebuild.
Don't run your engine until it's fixed or you could damage it as gas will pour into the crankcase, causing the oil to thin and lose its lubricating ability.

A very common problem with the GX series with Kawasaki engines. The carburetor 'inlet needle' sticks open and fills the crankcase with fuel. When checking the oil, it can be difficult to see the gasoline and the level appears to be OK. Remove the dipstick and smell the oil, you may detect a gasoline smell. Also, drain the oil, and you may find much more fluid than you expect.
The solution on newer mowers was to install an 'in-line' shut-off valve to keep the fuel from syphoning into the carburetor. The inlet needle and seat in the carburetor is NOT replaceable, so a new carburetor is the ultimate solution, but VERY expensive. Installing and using an in-line shut-off valve is more affordable.
Also, this situation is common when machine is transported on a trailer, as the bouncing causes the needle/seat to leak. When transporting, always turn off the fuel supply to the carburetor.

If you have gas running down to the carberator ( take the fuel line off and make sure there is gas running to it or there may be a screen or filter plugged by the tank or on the way to the carb) if there is gas there the problem lies in the carb itself. If you have some mechanical ability you should be all right as it is not rocket science. If you are comfortable with taking the carb apart the first thing i would check is the needle vavle. With the carb apart you will see a big brass looking thing this is the float, right above that is the neddle valve, that is the first place they seem to stick on me. Move the float up and down if the neddle above it doesn't move or sticks there is your problem. Spray it with carb cleaner and see if it moves freely. You may have to dismantle the carb to get it to work freely. If it won't buy a carb kit and install all the new gaskets needle valves and jets ( this is a very good ideal any how) Also make sure any little ports in the carb are open ( in the bottom of the carb there may be tiny little holes that are plugged) find a very small wire to clean them with and also make sure when you are done you can spray carb cleaner thru them. This is why they have a small straw on the can with it ( watch your eyes and wear safety glasses as you never know where it will spray out from) That stuff will dry your skin out fast so don't get it in your eyes and you may want to wear rubber gloves. Also be very careful when putting back together as there are little pieces that like to slide around and fall out or may get bent even worse you don't want them in your motor. Also try to count every screw you turn as these are jets and you will want to put them back to the place they were set at cause it's a pain to get them set right by adjusting them later. Do not force anything putting it back as you may bend the jets or float and you will have to take it apart again and replace them as well. Take your time and be patient and you will be just fine

Testimonial: "thanks...you gave me encouragement to give it a try. I took off the shroud, air cleaner box and couldn't take off the carb as there are no heads on the four bolts that hold it on. Looks like it was designed not to be removed? I took off an inspection plate on top of the carb and cleaned all of the channels and ports within with carb cleaner and compressed air...still no gas flowing thru carb...unless I force with compressed air. Any other thoughts? It is a twin cylinder OHV B/S. Thank you. "

Unhook the fuel pump feed to carb line and place it over a gas can with ignition disabled to see if it is pumping any fuel at all. If you are getting fuel past the filter and pump (should be low pressure) your next bet would be to check the carb itself. Many smaller motors that aren't run often can develop deposits or contaminants that clog small ports or jets in the carb and prevent fuel from making its way into the motor. If you have any available you may want to try spraying a little starting fluid into the carbs while cranking to see if it will help it turn over.

However if you are getting gas out of the bowl, then it can't be a plugged fuel filter. It could be bad needle-valve or blocked passage. Take the carb apart and soak it overnight in Lacquer thinner then blow it out with an air compressor. The float should be set slightly higher than level with the carburetor upside down.

My lt 133 john deere mower has gas in oil and back fires. runs 5 min and stops.


It's going to need a carb kit to fix the problem. Make sure your gas cap is venting ok, because gas expands in the summer and can force gas to pass thru carburetor and flood the cylinder then passing down into the oil. Depending on the age of your mower, the carburetor may have a gas shutoff solenoid on the bottom and this may have malfunctioned. Another is a bad float or needle valve which a carburetor kit would fix. A needle kit with bowl gasket may be all it will need. Hope this will help.

Hi I have a 1996 cb 800 and I had a dead plug and it caused gas to get in my oil and over filled it so I drained it and fixed the spark and my gas got back in to my oil agine I tryed to stars the bike and...


I could be the the fuel petcock valve is shot as well. If that checks out OK then it would be the floats in the carbs. They would have to be taken off the bike and cleaned. Look up cb 800 honda carb cleaning on Google. It shows you exactly how to do this. Good luck

John Deere Snowblower 1032 won't start. Obvious solution?


First dump the old gas and put in fresh. Clean or replace spark plug.
Put a squirt of starting fluid in the carb. If it fires the ignition system is good. Do this a few times because there is still old gas in the float bowl and fuel line. When the fresh gas gets to the carb it will stay running. If it did not fire with starting fluid the points and condensor will need to be replaced and maybe the coil.

Yardworks snowblower will not start with electric cord and to hard to crank


too hard to pull may indicate that it is hydrolocked. Fuel from the carb may have leaked into and filled the crankcase. Check the oil level and see if it is very very high. Watch out! The fuel makes the oil level very hard to see. If the oil is filled with gas than not being able to start is a good thing. The motor wont get enough protection from wear with that much gas watering it down! If the oil is watering down then drain it out and get some fresh oil. Make sure you turn off the gas between uses to prevent the carb from dumping fuel. Get the carb serviced to fix the problem too.

Toro ride on wont start


Battery required? Charge battery or replace. Replace air filter and spark plug. Dump out old oil and replace with 30w oil. Electric start may have a fuse blown. Dump out old gas fill with new with Stabile always added to gas. Try spraying starter spray in carb at air cleaner with filter removed. All mowers have a low oil sensor to prevent starting on low oil. Remove bowl from carb, should be full of gas. Pinch off fuel line with pliers or turn fuel valve off. Check float should be hanging down allowing fuel flow. Float up stops fuel flow.

Troy-bilt 34322 343220110815 mower will not start


Dump out old gas. Fill with fresh gas. Always use Stabile in gas. Clean or replace park plug and air filter. Check oil level. All mowers have a low oil start cutoff. 30w oil. If any grey in oil moisture contaminated, dump out old oil and refill. Check fuel line for cracks or leaking. Check primer bulb for cracks, replace if required. Clean outside of carb with carb cleaner to ensure easy choke operation. Remove carb bowl from carb, ensure float hangs down freely. float down fuel flow, float up fuel flow stops. Check bowl screw for hole thru bolt, if so clean out hole.
