Question about Janome Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Bobbin case makes a scratchy noise when sewing, worse at higher speeds. When I 'pretend' to sew without the bobbin holder in place to try and diagnose where the noise is coming from, there is no noise when the needle goes up & down. When I insert the bobbin holder, without the bobbin and the needle goes up & down and there is this scratchy sound as the bobbin case rotates, like its rubbing the housing area. Have cleaned the whole machine, oilled it and changed the needle. The tension seems not right too... threads not looking accurate.

Have you checked to be sure the needle is inserted correctly? Try turning it.

Take out your bobbin case and examine it for nicks, scratches and or rough spots. If the problem is not too bad it may be possible to buff out the bad spot with an emery stick or emery cloth. If that isn't possible or it makes too much noise after you buff it you will have to replace it. Look especially along the edges and underneath.

SOURCE: can't reinsert bobbin holder

There's probably still some thread or lint inside the race (where the hook Goes). Remove the hook, and look for discolorations in the race. Use your finger nail not a screwdriver to remove these. They are bits of thread. When you finish put a drop of oil on the hook. Sew it off on scrap fabric. sewman7

The key to proper stitches is that tension on the bobbin must equal the tension on the upper thread spool as well. The bobbin has a tension screw that may have come loose or the thread is not properly in the tensioner. For example, the bobbin could be in backwards. Or the tension of the top could be too light and allowing the tension on the bottom to pull the thread down too much.
Open the bobbin tray and watch while you slowly rotate the hand control to see it make a stitch.
You will probably be able to figure out what is wrong.

Top thread is hanging up somewhere under feed dogs. With and without bobbin in place. Any suggestions.

1. Make sure to adjust the bobbin tension. Also, make sure the bobbin is correct for the machine. If it is too tall it will surely have problems. (see attachment for bobbin tension adjustment)
2 Always thread your machine with the pressure foot up. As you thread give gentle tugs to check for hang ups. This has to be corrected.
3. Adjust the top tension to four to begin with. Final tension adjustment can be made when you give a trial sew.
*Always oil race w/one drop of oil before the bobbin case is placed back. This is done only about every 10000 stitches.

Loud clunking noise when sewing. . . then it starts to stutter then it stops & gives me an error. It doesn't occur when reverse sewing though

try these suggestions
change the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure to use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is not damaged or warped
make sure the bobbin is not over full
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case
make sure the bobbin case fits securely into the machine unless it's
a drop in bobbin
if these suggestions don't help then the machine may need to be
checked at a repair shop

Bobbin case is moving and making noise

then the bobbin case may need to be replaced, you can either take the machine
to a sewing machine shop to have it checked to see what wrong with the machine
& make sure it's the bobbin case or buy a new bobbin case & see if that solves
the problem & if it doesn't then you'd still have to take it in to be checked

Makes too much noise

Check that your needle is fully up into the needle housing, and is in flat shank to the back.

Also change the needle if it has been in the machine for more than 6 hours of sewing as the needle will go blunt and this can make squeaking or popping sounds as you stitch.

Lastly, are you sure that the bobbin case is in correctly and hasn't been put in incorrectly. It should have a stitch finger which locks up into the top of the rotary hook if its a vertical bobbin case and bobbin design which I'm pretty sure your machine is.

Loud noise while sewing

Could you let us know which machine this is.....

In the meantime....the damaged bobbin is not good, replace it/them........if you have a top loading drop-in bobbin, check for needle damage on the plastic bobbin case (remove needleplate to access).

If there is evidence of needle strikes, if mild, you could try to use very fine wet & dry emery paper to smooth, if severe, buy a new bobbin case.

There may be a load of lint under and around the bobbin case too, remove and clean up this area. If very dirty, use methylated spitit on cloth or cottonbud (QTip) to remove grime (don't soak)
