I have a Troy Built weed eater, that sprays oil out of the side when i try to crank it. But will not start, its a 4 cycle.

Hi Bruce:
That does not sound good. How long have you had it, did it ever run well, and what happened immediately before you discovered the problem? Some history may help discover what caused the problem. Once you find the cause, the fix is usually known.

Without a doubt, the worst weedeater I ever had was a 4 cycle, and I've gone back to the 2 cycle.
I think the biggest problem with the 4 cycle for a weedeater is that the position of the motor is not constant, so the oil in the crank case ends up against the piston.

As for trying to solve your problem, I'd start off by:
1) cleaning the motor so you can see exactly where the oil comes from.
2) make sure that the oil is at the correct level and not overfilled.
3) Remove the spark plug and make sure it's clean.
4) Use the start cord to spin the motor over a few times to make sure excess fuel and/or oil is blown out of the cylinder.
5) Check the spark at the plug tip. Should be hot and blue.
6) Put the plug back in, fuel it up, and try to start.

Now you get to look for the source of the oil, and since you know you have spark, the only other thing it takes to make it run is a functioning carb.

I put seafoam in my weedeater with on mixture of gas and oil and it runs better why

It can get its air easier. When using too thick an oil in the filter, sometimes the carby cant breathe properly and it will cause the motor to stall.

Weedeater 380

Hi Nick, Ryobi Weedeaters are all two stroke. They need a fuel to oil mix of about 40:1. This is why they dont have anywhere to put oil in. It goes with the fuel.

Unsieze a weedeater motor after using regular gas

Even if you are able to "unseize" it, it may not run afterwards. The reason you NEED to add oil to the gasoline is because that is the only lubrication the engine gets! You can try to unseize it by removing all of the remaining gasoline from it and putting in ONLY some 2 cycle engine oil. Then you will need to attempt to turn the engine shaft back and forth using the weedeater feed spool as a lever handle. IF, and I say if it breaks loose you may not have sustained alot of damage. If it doesn't...

What is the mixture for 50/1 raito for craftsman weedeater? thanks

In truth, I've never found that it's all that important to get it EXACTLY correct.

When I initially purchased my weedeater, I filled the tank, then emptied it into a disposable container of a known amt. What I used was an old plastic container that I knew the size (look on the bottom, it's usually there). If the tank is a half liter (about 2 and something cups), then you're going to want to use about 10ml of oil (about 2 teaspoons of oil.

Here's what I would do if it were mine, take your best guess using what I've said above, and maybe just put a tablespoon (3 teaspoons) in. You'll be fine, and the weedeater won't care either way. Done, easy.

Hope this helps!

Don't forget to give me appropriate feedback, thanks and good luck!
