Sewing machine problem

Had a bobbin thread jam malfunction, now it stops with a klunk after hand rotating the machine about once. I cannot find what is stopping it. The needle goes down through the bobbin and back up, then stops, like it's hitting something.

SOURCE: Timing problem

You might have to look at loosening the set screws for the gear on the lower shaft that drives the hook driver gear . Loosen the screws, slide the gears apart, then adjust the hook so it is entering the scarf of the needle on the upstroke. Slide the gears togeather so they mesh again and it should be back in time. There are other factors though such as needle height adjustment which is done with the needle bar and hook and needle clearance (the distance between the needle and hook) which should be about .030. I'm a Bernina tech but many machines work the same principle. Good luck.

SOURCE: kenmore sewing machine 15008100 not working

Was all well and working before you did work on the bobbin area ?

Ensure the machine is unplugged & bobbin winder is set OFF as there is a clutch preventing the needle arm to operate when bobbin winding......remove the needle.

If you take the bobbin and hook out, can you manually rotate the handwheel forwards ?

If yes, this suggests they are not inserted quite right, or the timing is out of adjustment.

Can you rotate the handwheel backwards ? On some machines the clutch allows for reverse travel freely, but only around the 15 degrees you mention forward when the top cover is off.....there may be a broken or dislodged spring unit/armature inside top near the handwheel and bobbin winder assembly that is acting as though the top cover is open (a safety feature)....generally towards the rear of machine and acting like a log thrown into a gear.

This may help straight away, or only just start to unravell the cause....

If you want any more help with this, just post back here, or, drop a line through the "Contact Us" page at www.bargainbox.com.au

What to do to fix the bobbin thread from jamming up everytime

There are a couple of reasons that can cause this.
a. Raise the pressure foot. As you load the top thread give small tugs to check for snags. They must be stopped.
b. Once the top threading is done on top lower the pressure foot. Now, give a tug on the thread. Is the tension really hard or just average? You may need to lower the tension to stop the jamming of the bobbin thread.
c. Clean the bobbin area. Check the bobbin tension and adjust as you need to.
d. Put a drop of oil on the race. (Thing the bobbin case sits on)
e. As the bobbin hook (sharp thing) is rotating does the bobbin case move back and forth a lot. You may need to adjust the bar that is next to the bobbin case so it can't rotate. Usually you will need to move it forward.
SEE INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO ADJUST THE BOBBIN. TENSION OF UPPER AND LOWER THREAD MUST BE RIGHT.

How to adjust the tension disks on my Pfaff sewing machine?

Make sure your bobbin is the right size. If it is too high it won't turn freely. Also, make sure you drop the bobbin in so it rotates clockwise. The tension must adjusted by hanging the bobbin from your hand and bob it up and down gently. It should move about one inch downward once adjusted properly. The hole in your plate should be checked to ensure the center where the thread dispenses is smooth. Use a finger nail file to smoothen if needed. Now, adjust the top tension to four. You may need to adjust just slightly. Just remember when you remove the bobbin assembly to put a drop of oil on the race. (Many forget this). When you rotate the handwheel towards you the bottom thread should come up. If this doesn't happen then you will need to have adjustments made.

Brother sewing machine jammed?

take bobbin out...look in case in machine and pull any loose threads...you have to sew very slowly so this does not happen...the books don't tell you that!!! Make sure bobbin itself is neatly wrapped and thread is out where it is supposed to be once inside case.

Lil sew & sew lss202 bobbin threading?

Drop bobbin in carrier such that the thread and bobbin form "P". When you pull on thread the bobbin unwinds counter clockwise. Lay loose thread in groove on plate coming toward front of machine. Replace cover. Rotate hand wheel towards you to pick up thread. Pull upper and lower threads to rear of machine under presser foot.

The thread hangs up inside the bobbin holder

A jammed machine is caused by thread being caught in the hook. Remove the upper thread and the bobbin case, turn the hand wheel towards you (counterclockwise) by hand and remove any thread in the bobbin case area. *Always turn the hand wheel towards you. Turning the hand wheel away from you (clockwise) can cause the machines timing to become unaligned and jam your machine. Also, always make sure the presser foot is in the down position before you start sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will jam your machine in the bobbin case.

I just bought a janome mini sewing machine. I

First, in order to get the bobbin thread up, you have to turn the wheel backward, not forward. If you try this, and it is not the problem, keep going.

Next you need to check the needle. There is a screw on the right side of the needle carriage right underneath the underside of the top...unscrew this and the needle should come right out. The flat side of the needle shank should go towards the back of the machine. If it isn't, switch it so that it is and try again.

If this doesn't solve your problem, what has happened is that the gears in the machine have gotten out of alignment. There is an easy fix:

Take off the plate that covers the bobbin chase...there are two screws one on each side. Remove these...you need a stub screwdriver, because regular ones will not fit under there.

Remove the bobbin carriage and the bobbin, making careful note of how they fit back in. Take a picture before disassembling it so you have a reference.

The part that carries the thread around the bobbin is still in the machine. Turn the wheel and you will see it rotate. What has happened is that the needle is not going down in the machine at the right point because someone kept sewing after it jammed and one gear kept going while the other one didn't and now it is out of alignment. These machines have plastic gears and the can slip past each other if you aren't careful not to stop immediately when they jam.

To fix it, you are going to have to do some trial and error. Grab the rotating part of the bobbin chase and hold it firmly. Rotate the wheel forward until you hear it click once. Then rotate the wheel backward again and see if it grabs the top thread. If it doesn't, repeat holding the bobbin chase and turning the wheel forward until it does.

Once you have the gears basically aligned, you will need to reassemble everything. Put the face plate back on and put at least one of the screws in all the way. The face plate holds the bobbin chase in correctly and if you don't fasten it it will not work correctly.

Now try sewing. If it starts to jam, stop immediately, cut the threads and look at the back. If it's a loopy mess, you are going to have to dissamble as before and again grasp the bobbin chase and turn the wheel forward one more click, then reassemble and try again. Eventually, you will find exactly the right alignment and the machine will sew perfectly.

I just had to make this fix on my own machine...I didn't want to take it in for repair because the bench fee alone would cost as much as the machine did!

There are some great video's on YouTube for help with threading the machine...look for StampTV and you should find them. Good luck!

Threading the bobbin

Threading the bobbin - winding thread onto the bobbin.

Position the new empty bobbin onto the vertical bobbin rod next to the end wheel. Click the rod to the right to engage drive. Hold the outer end wheel with left hand, and rotate the inner wheel anticlockwise by about a 1/2 turn (it stops) this removes drive from the foot and needle mechanism.

From a spool of thread on the top, thread to a loop/post on the left on the top. Then back to the bobbin you want to wind. Thread through a hole from the inside-out. Hold the thread vertically above the bobbin while you depress the footswitch to start winding. Let go when it's turned a few times.

Move bobbin shaft left, and tighten end wheel after winding enough.

Fitting bobbin-

Move footplate towards you, insert bobbin in hole so that bobbin rotates anticlockwise when thread is pulled, then pull thread into the fine notch towards you. After this position thread away from you, and slide the footplate closed.

To start / load thread. Hold the end 3" of the thread through the needle behind the sewing foot. hand crank towards you to sew first stitch in air. This should retrieve the lower thread - which you can catch with a handy pair of scissors. Then pull both threads rearwards - ready to sew.

Needle jams and breaks off

Needle jams....Thread is caught in the hook...solution...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case, turn the handwheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands.

Needles breaks
1. Needles is damaged..Insert new needle
2. The needle is not correctly inserted....insert flat side towards the back
3. Wrong needle size for the fabric...Choose a needle to suit the thread and fabric.
