Question about Audio Players & Recorders
Here is the problem: I can choose between 3 HDMI sources HDMI 1/Coax 2 | HDMI 2/OPT 1 | HDMI 3/OPT2 I receive video signal from HDMI, but audio signal from 6CH Direct. If I choose this on the remote, it also drops the HDMI source. Then I have audio, but no video. Weird thing is, the manual says, I should do exactly this with a similar device (AVR 142) http://www.harmankardon.com/resources/Brands/harmankardon/Products/ProductRelatedDocuments/en-US/OwnersManual/AVR_142_OM%20(English%20EU).pdf Might it be somehow possible to setup a HDMI 1/6CH Direct ? Can somebody help me with this?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You can also use a digital coax cable (color orange) to go into coax 1 for DVD coax 2 for cable box. Just make sure to set the coax in input settings. The coax cables are a little cheaper than the optical cables and work just as well.

I downloaded the manual from some site 5 min. after I posted and it was simple. Turn the reciever off, then press and hold the enter button while you turn it back on. It worked, no problem...

Not sure if this is your fix, but I had what I thought was the same problem. I played with my Onkyo quite a bit ensuring the correct assignments for HDMI, audio and all that stuff. Turns out I neglected to make sure the output devices were properly assigned. Many devices aren't default to output sound over HDMI. I changed the audio out settings on the cable box to HDMI and suddenly the Onkyo worked great. I know, I'm an idiot for not checking that in the first place, but maybe someone out there is having the same trouble as well.

It will only display via component. Your HDMI firmware is either 1.1 or 1.2 and has HDCP issues (High Definition Copyright Protection) it's a firmware problem that has been fixed on all new receivers, not just a HK issue, all receivers! the new version 1.3a and 1.3b have fixed the issue. Unfortunately you cannot update the firmware on the receiver. Hope this explains it for you, sorry! Lot's of angry people out there!!! myself included.

SOURCE: Install problems at AVR 142
ensure that you have the reciver connected to a display monitor e.g t.v. set, there you'l be able to make all the necessary ammendments.use the video out or use the HDMI out to connect to your t.v.
which speakers are using for the avr 142?
