Power plug bypass

Plug connector on pc smashed I just want to splice the power supply to the already exposed wires on the pc

    2 RED wires, 2 BLACK wires, 1 BLUE wires.I assume RED is (+) BLACK (-),What about the BLUE ?

You must sure why are you doing this? If you are sure see the diagram coming with the power supply and measure the Voltage with VOM, and splice according.

"I bypassed the immobilizer circuit only on my alarm module (which is really tedious). Bypassing the whole
module is possible (and little easier), but you will lose the use of the remotes and the ability to arm the alarm.
The alarm module in my '97 900 SETC is located under the carpet, below the driver's power seat switches (a
pain to get at).
If you want to bypass the module completely:
1. Disconnect the battery (make sure you know the radio code-if needed)
2. Unplug the connector from alarm module and remove module from car
3. Install a wire jumper between pin 8 and pin 20 in the connector
4. Install a wire jumper between pin 9 and pin 21 in the connector
5. Install a wire jumper between pin 10 and pin 22 in the connector
6. Wrap securely with electrical tape
If you want to bypass the immobilizer circuit only:
1. Disconnect the battery (make sure you know the radio code-if needed)
2. Unplug the connector from the alarm module
3. Cut the following wires from the back of the connector and splice together as follows (Don't cut the wires too
close to the connector, because someday down the road you may want install a new module, so you'll have to
reverse this process):
4. Cut the wires to pin 8 and pin 20 and splice together w/ wire nut
5. Cut the wires to pin 9 and pin 21 and splice together w/ wire nut
6. Cut the wires to pin 10 and pin 22 and splice together w/ wire nut
7. Secure all with electrical tape
8. Reconnect the connector to the module

What's wrong with it?

1. Wires connecting to it? Splice or solder them.

2. Connector smashed or other physical (not electrical) problem? Get a used one off a junker (virtually any model) and splice/solder your car's wires to corresponding terminals on the new OBD connector.

Where do i plug in the power adaptor, so I dont have to worry about using the choke when the bike gets cold?

I have a toyota trueno 1992 and i want to put a new stereo in it


Go to the auto parts store and get a wire adaptor made for a 1992 trueno. It will plug into your factory harness. The wire colors are prematched to your sony and other aftermarket stereos. Just match the wire colors, splice with connectors making sure no wires are exposed. (A little electrical tape for good measure around splices helps). Then it just plugs in. If your factory stereo has mounts that screw onto the radio, unscrew them and attach them to the sony. Remove sleeve from radio and discard. The screw holes are already on the sony.

Emachine ET1810 is not powering on already replaced the power supply


You may have a bad Power On switch. The Power On switch is located inside the plastic Power On button.

This is a generic ATX power on switch, that I have found works in many computers,

Have you bypassed the Power On switch?
If you bypass the Power On switch, and the Power Supply comes on, you have a bad Power On switch.
If you bypass the Power On switch, and the Power Supply does Not come on, you have a bad Power Supply.

Sometimes a new Power Supply can be bad.
Make SURE the ATX main power cable is plugged in tightly.

(I have had an instance recently where I bypassed the Power On switch, and the Power Supply came on, but only as long as the jumper wire was in place. Remove jumper wire? Power Supply went off. Removed the jumper wire, then pressed the Power On button. The Power Supply came on )

Bypassing the Power On switch has nothing to do with the switch itself, or the wires to the switch.
A jumper wire is used in the connector for the ATX main power cable.

My sources indicate the ET1810 uses a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

A jumper wire is used to connect the Green wire (Soft Power On. Also abbreviated as PS_ON) to ANY Black wire. (ALL Black wires are Ground wires)

Looking at the photo to the far right, you will see the Green wire goes down into a socket hole.
This is the Back of the connector.
The jumper wire goes down into the socket hole RIGHT NEXT to the Green wire.
The jumper wire has to go down into the socket hole pretty far.
(Approximately 1/2 inch)

At the end of the Green wire is a metal terminal. The jumper wire has to go down into the socket hole, far enough to touch that metal terminal.
Same thing for ANY socket hole with a Black wire.

(The Green wire is the Soft Power On wire. It is a 5 Volt DC wire. The Black wires are Ground wires.
The jumper makes a circuit from the Soft Power On wire to a Ground wire)

The jumper wire usually preferred is a paper clip straightened out, then bent into a U-shape.
The middle of the U is wrapped with black plastic electrical tape.
This is where your fingers hold the jumper wire.

One end of the jumper wire goes down into the socket hole with the Green wire.
The other end of the jumper wire goes down into a socket hole with ANY Black wire.
The contact is no more than 2 seconds.

My computer won't turn on. Everything's dead.


1) Check to make sure your surge protector has power. Power On LED light is lit.

2) Check THE receptacle, in the surge protector that the computer is plugged into.
I have had a few bad surge protectors where just THAT receptacle was bad.
"Hmmm, surge protector Power On LED light is lit.
Monitor, printer, and router plugged into the surge protector have power."

Plugged a table lamp into THAT receptacle in the surge protector, that the computer was plugged into, found it to be bad.

3) Perform the test to check whether it is a bad Power On switch, or a bad Power Supply.

The Power On switch is located inside the plastic Power On button.
This is a generic Power On switch (ATX), that I have found fits many computers,

The test involves bypassing the Power On switch. Has nothing to do with the Power On switch wires.
A jumper wire is used on your 20, or 24-pin ATX main power cable's connector.

The jumper wire goes from the Soft Power On wire, (Also referred to as PS_ON. It is a Green wire), to ANY Black wire in the main power cable's connector.

Since you didn't post what computer you have, (Computer manufacturer, and Model Number), I have to give you generic information.
It may also be, that there is no direct information available for the computer you have.

1) This is a 20-pin ATX main power cable, and it's connector,

[Older computers use the 20-pin ATX main power cable. Later computers needed more power to the motherboard, hence 4 more power wires were added. 24-pin ATX main power cable ]

Computer unplugged from power, observe Anti-Static Precautions.

[ Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity.
Static will fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.

Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open; TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case.
This will relieve your body of Static.

While working on your computer your hands, and forearms should occasionally touch the metal frame.
But if you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again upon your return ]

If you bypass the Power On switch, and the computer comes on, (Power Supply comes on), you have a bad Power On switch.

If you bypass the Power On switch, and the computer Does Not come on, (Power Supply), you have a bad Power Supply.

The test is to use a jumper wire on the 20, or 24-pin ATX main power cable's connector.
The jumper wire connects from the Soft Power On wire, (Green), to ANY Ground wire. (ALL Black wires are Ground wires)

The 20, or 24-pin ATX main power cable is plugged into the motherboard.
The Power Supply, (Computer), is plugged into power.

Use one end of a jumper wire, to go down into the socket hole with a Green wire, and the other end of the jumper wire to go down into a socket hole, with ANY Black wire.

The jumper wire must go down into the socket hole pretty far.
The jumper wire goes down into the socket hole, right next to the wire that is already in the socket hole.

The jumper wire has to go down in the socket hole far enough, to touch a metal terminal that is on the end of the wire.
I realize that this may look complicated on 'paper', but I'm just being very detailed.

Most use a jumper wire made from a paper clip. The paper clip's diameter is thin enough to slide down into the socket hole, right next to the wire that is already in the socket hole. (And touch the metal terminal at the bottom of the wire)

The paper clip is straightened out, then bent into a U-shape.
Black plastic electrical tape is wound around the middle of the U-shape.
The taped part is what you hold onto.

The voltage for the Soft Power On wire, (Green) is 5 Volts DC.
Two D cell flashlight batteries produce 3 Volts DC.
Just in case you have reservations.

There may be a spark. Warning you in advance.
You may wish to use a glove, on the hand that holds the jumper wire.
Just make a brief contact with the jumper wire. No more than 2 seconds should suffice.

If the Power Supply comes on, you have a bad Power On switch.
If the Power Supply does not come on, you have a bad Power Supply.
No if's, and's, or but's about it.


Tell me the computer manufacturer name, and model number, and we'll see if a compatible Power Supply can be found.

My desktop computer wont power on


Suggest you see if the problem is the Power On switch, or the Power Supply.

(First check to see if the receptacle in the surge protector, that the computer is plugged into, has power.
Have had a few bad surge protectors, where just THAT receptacle was bad.

PC was caught in a lightning storm, and now will not boot (only at random). It seems like it's not getting power, when it does it'll boot normally. But when the storm hit my LAN was disabled and I had to...


Test whether it is the Power On switch, or the Power Supply. Since the LAN card bit the dust, you may be looking at a worse problem, though.

Bypass the Power On switch.

If the Power Supply comes on, the problem is the switch.

To bypass the Power On switch, you will be using a jumper wire on the

Number 7 - main power connector (ATX_POWER), is the
24-pin ATX main power cable connector, on your motherboard.

Referring back to the Playtool link, you will see a wire with Green insulation on it.
This is the Soft Power On wire. (PS_ON)

A jumper wire is used to connect it to ANY Black wire.
ALL Black wires are Ground wires.

[This is a DC circuit. There is a Positive, and a Negative.
A Ground wire is a Negative wire.

The green Soft Power On wire, is a positive wire containing 5 Volts.
You are completing a circuit.
The Soft Power On circuit.
You are bypassing the Power On switch]

There is no splicing of the wires to connect the jumper wire.
The jumper wire will go down into the socket holes, of the 24-pin ATX main power cable connector.

One end of the jumper wire goes down into the socket hole, containing the green Soft Power On wire.
The other end of the jumper wire goes down into a socket hole, with ANY Black wire.

The 24-pin ATX main power cable, is connected to the 24-pin ATX main power cable connector, on the motherboard.
Just as shown in the photo to the far right on the Playtool link.

The back of the 24-pin ATX main power cable's connector, is where the wires come in.
(The front of the power cable's connector is plugged into the motherboard)

I use a jumper wire that is approximately 3 inches long. (7.62cm)
An insulated wire. Both ends of the insulated wire are stripped of insulation, approximately 1/2 inch. (1.27cm)

One bare end of the jumper wire, goes down into the socket hole of the Green wire. Right next to the wire.
It has to go pretty far down in there.

At the end of each power wire, going into the 24-pin ATX main power cable connector, is a metal terminal pin. (Actually is a round hollow metal pin)
The jumper wire's bare end Must touch that metal pin.

The other end of the jumper wire, goes down into ANY socket hole with a Black wire.
(ALL Black wires are Ground wires)

Power Supply (Computer) plugged into power, the jumper wire is inserted.
The contact is a very BRIEF one. No more than 2 seconds.
(The Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch)

I suggest you also check the 12 Volt power rail. Check it with everything plugged in, inside the computer, and the computer on.
You need the Power Supply to have a load to get an accurate test.

There are 3 Voltage power rails in the Inspiron SMPS.
(Switched-Mode Power Supply, or just Power Supply for short)

A) The 3.3 Volt power rail
B) The 5 Volt power rail
C) The 12 Volt power rail.

The main one to check is the 12 Volt power rail.
[Orange wires are 3.3 Volt.
Red wires are 5 Volt.
Yellow wires are 12 Volt ]

The Positive (Red probe lead of the multimeter, is connected to any Yellow wire, coming out of the Power Supply.
The Negative (Black) probe lead of the multimeter, is connected to any Black (Ground) wire.

See if there is an unused standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable.
It has 1 Red wire, 1 Yellow wire, and two Black wires.
Connect to the Yellow wire, and to one of the Black wires.

[Multimeter function set to DC Volts. If it has it, set it to the 0 to 50 Volt scale]

11 to 13 Volts is Okay, but I prefer the voltage to closer to 12.
11 Volts indicates it's time for a new Power Supply.

My t3065 e machine was powered down manually 1 week ago when I got back to it to turn it on nothing happens, the power cord and wall plug are fine


Perhaps during the interlude that the eMachines wasn't being used, there was a power outage, or lightning struck nearby.

The first hardware component that I would check, would be the Power On switch, and Power Supply.

Bypass the Power On switch to see if the problem is the Power On switch, or the Power Supply.

If bypassing turns the Power Supply on, the problem is the Power On switch.

If bypassing does Not turn the Power Supply on, the problem is the Power Supply.

Inside the plastic Power On button, is a Power On switch.
It is a Momentary Contact Switch.

Below is one example of a Power On switch, I have found to fit many computers.

Bypassing is done with a jumper wire, inserted into the back of the 20/24-pin ATX main power cable connector.

The jumper wire Briefly, touches the Soft Power On wire (Green) terminal down in the connector, and ANY Ground terminal. (Black)

I listed 20/24-pin above, because I don't know if the T3065 uses a 20-pin ATX main power cable connector, or a 24-pin ATX main power cable connector.

Below is an example of a 20-pin ATX main power cable, and it's corresponding connector,

It is plugged into the motherboard.

The Front of the connector is plugged into the female socket on the motherboard.
The Back of the connector is shown, and this is the area the power wires go down into.

I have Not detailed this procedure yet.

Do Not attempt it until I do.

I want to know first, if you are interested in doing the procedure, and will also outline any safety issues involved.

No power when press the button, power plug is good?


Good day sir/ma'am, chances are that your power supply box is the faulty part. But to make sure let us test your power supply box. here are the steps:
  1. PC is off, open the side panels of the CPU, disconnect the 20(or 24) pin molex connector from the motherboard.
  2. Get a piece of jumper wire, about 4 inches and splice the ends.
  3. On the molex connector, locate the green wire, then using the jumper wire, short it with the black wire (there are lots of black wires there).
  4. look at the exhaust fan, at this point it should be spinning (good). if not here are the other possible outcome: (1) the fan did not spin. replace the power supply box with a new one. (2) the fan spins momentarily then stops, this condition only occur once. Its either your power supply has no load (intermittent symptoms), or the switching controller stage part is faulty. Better buy a new one than have a headache. (3) blows a fuse. replace the entire box.
If you have a good power supply, install it on your CPU and test.
