Poor picture quality on certain channels only

We purchased a 46 inch Sceptre 1080p LCD TV as an on-line special from Costco. When the unit was first set up all channels came in perfectly. It is now 3 weeks later and the picture on several of the channels has checkerboard type grid lines and interference making viewing impossible. Other channels are still perfect.

Our service is Comcast basic cable in Ft. Myers Florida. We have another tv in the house, and all channels come in clearly on that set. We called Comcast and they said it might be a bad connection to that particular tv, but they would have to come out to inspect and charge us for the service call. They also said it sounded like a problem with the tv since the other tv works fine on all channels.

The unit is still within the 90 day return period at Costco, but I really don't want to hassle taking it back, but I don't want to pay for Comcast to come out either.

Any help woudl be appreciated. Thank you.

You could try moving it to the other room to see if the connection is bad. Better than taking to the store just yet. If the picture is still bad at both connections I would just bite the bullet and take it back and exchange it while its free.
Hope this helps and let me know if you need more ideas.

Sony xbr lcd flicker double picture

Hello,

I'm a 100% certain your LCD panel is bad, I've run across a lot of Sony/Samsung's with the same problem. It can be fixed but involves taking the TV apart. I have 5 flat screens in my home, 3 of them had the same problem yours had, I patched them and they are working fine! A replacement panel will cost more than a new TV set so that's not an option. If you do no wish to fix, I would suggest putting it on Craigslist as a parts unit, someone will buy it. If I have been a help to you please sign my guest book

Is the integral Freeview on my 32 inch Full HD TV HD or Not

Simple answer. No. But please read on . . .

Full HD Freeview, i.e 1080p does not exist. The four HD channels currently available on Freeview all transmit at 720p resolution. There is insufficient bandwidth in the TV transmission range for the HD channels to transmit at 1080p. It could be done, but it would be at the expense of other channels.

Your TV, however, is Full HD, as indicated by the 1080p in the specifications. This means it can display a full HD picture from a device which outputs at 1080p resolution. Devices which generally output at 1080p resolution include Blu-ray DVD players, games systems and PCs.

When viewing a Freeview HD channel, your TV will display the picture in 1080i (interlace) resolution. This is not true/full HD. The transmitted picture comprises of 720 horizontal lines and the software inside the TV is creating the additional 360 lines and interlacing them between the 720 lines from the original transmission in order to create a 1080 line picture which fills the entire screen. This process is commonly known as 'upscaling' and can cause deterioration in the overall picture quality, most noticably on poor quality, cheap TVs.

Hope that explains it for you sufficiently!

I bought a Sanyo DP46849, lcd tv, 1080. and I'm getting a fuzzy picture. It helps when i put my cable receiver on hd channels, but even my blu-ray looks better on my 720 plasma???? any suggestions, I...

I gather from the information given that you are getting the proper signal from the cable receiver but there may be a settings issue with the LCD TV. If the 720 plasma is giving good performance then it has to be settings on the lcd .
I would review the instruction manual to see if you have over look something that is a proper cable select ( hdmi or vga).
If you have selected vga you will not get a clear picture in that mode. HDMI is High definition which works properly with 1080P mode. If you have further issue the manufacturer troubleshooting or Knowledge base will give answers also.
1. check your HDMI cables make sure they are properly seated in the input ports
squarely not at an angle.
2. If you are using a cable receiver check the connection there. Make sure you have the proper cable for your receiver to the TV
3.check channel to see if you TV is selected for channel 3 or 4 as recommend in the instruction manual
4. check the V-chip setup it may be blocking certain channels
5. check you picture modes each channel can have desire picture setup modes.
6. If you are using rca cables you may not get the proper picture as you would with HDMI cable that are specially designed for High Definition TV

Poor picture quality on Ilo 46'' television

Do you have cable or satellite? Disconnect them and if you currently have free over the air TV and the same problem occurs with these channels, then there's something wrong with the TV. If the problem only occurs on channels with sat or cable connection, then there may be a faulty cable somewhere that can easily be replaced.

If the problem occurs with free channels, one solution (although a long one) would be to unplug your TV completely for about a week, this will reset the TV settings

Picture freezes on Sony Bravia 46 in

this can be a weak signal check the connections on cables. also in hot weather you can get a build up of static electricity and it will need to be discharged, turn off tv at mains and cross the connector and the cables if you have a buster or other box connected to them turn off and do the same to them. use something metal but make sure there is no power to them.

Make sure you are using an HDMI video cable for optimal picture quality. Also, you must be using an HD reciever.
