L1 is a code that occurs when the mirror/lens assembly has a problem. Most times the problem can be found when the glass is removed and while unplugged, checking that the lens is on track under that black tin cover. This generally happens when the copier is moved and the scanner jumps track, a ratt a tatt tatt noise is usually the clue heard prior to the L1 code.
