Whining noise I have a 2003 Hyundai XG350. When I accelerate even while stopped I head a whining noise from the A/C lines by the firewall. It sounds like a P/S whine but I replaced the pump and it didn't change

Would need head under the bonnet to know for sure but feel the AC lines as a lack of gas can cause a noise like this but its not often that you can hear it above the clanking of the diesel engine ,no petrol ones here at our fuel prices

SOURCE: High Pitch whine during acceleration

Hi Pullerwife,

I have a few suggestions for you,

First of all, check your air filter, make sure its clean, not clogged, and doesn't need to be changed.

I don't know how handy you are, but if you are fairly handy, check the idler pulley bearings, if your not, have a shop check it out, as a last resort.

Power steering pump/fluid being low is also a possibility, but thats usually more of a lower pitched whine then what you describe.

You say once the vehicle is warmed up, the whining stops. Does Weather seem to be a factor as well?

Hope I've helped, and don't forget to rate.

SOURCE: Loud accelerating whining

THE FAN CLUTCH WILL MAKE A LOUD ROARING NOISE WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED AND GET LOUDER AS THE RPM IS RAISED. THERE IS A PROGRAM UPDATE THAT SOMETIMES FIXES THIS PROBLEM. IF NOT THE FAN CLUTCH WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE PROGRAM UPDATED.

SOURCE: 2003 dodge grand caravan problems with whining noise. Had power steering Pump replaced. Still whining noise . Louder when turning the steering wheel.

There is a relatively simple solution to the problem you and many others are having. The power steering reservoir contains a mesh screen filter. Over time it will start to plug up and cause the symptom you and many others are having. Replacing the reservoir will 99% of the time resolve the issue. I have done this successfully on many Caravans, Town and Countrys, and Voyagers.

The part is available from you local Dodge dealer.

To remove
1. remove the two screws that hold the reservoir to the intake plenum.
2. Loosen the nut on the backside and under the reservoir. It is in between the coil and the reservoir. a 10mm socket and extension will work.
3. place a bunch of rags under the reservoir to catch the power steering fluid that will spill.
4. remove the two hoses from the reservoir.

After you intsll the new one top of with ATF+4 transmission fluid. This is the only fluid that is recommended for you P/S system by the Dealer. Typically I will flush the power steering system prior to installing the new reservoir to make sure the fluid is as clean as possible in order to get the maximum life from the new reservoir.

hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Whining Noise

Sure sounds like a power steering pump, if they did not flush the grim out of the system from the old pump before they replaced the pump the new pump will fail in short order.
