SOURCE: Craftsman weedwacker 358.791070 suddenly stopped

could have been caused by any number of thing's,
take the recoil assembly off and try pulling the rope out while holding the center of the rope spool just enuff to prevent it from popping out in case there's nothing holding it there.
rewinding the rope is alot easier than rewinding the recoil spring Trust Me.. lol

Starter rope is broken how do i replace it

Remove the fuel tank and starter cowl, remove snapped rope.wind the pulley to put tension on the spring approx 7-8 rotations. Put a screwdriver through gaps in pulley and through a gap in top of cowl in order to stop pulley from releasing tension. Burn end of new rope and twist end with a rag while still hot to make a point at end ( careful not to burn yourself) then feed the pointed end through rope hole on outside of cowl and through the hole in side of plastic pulley. Tie a knot in the rope once its through and on inner of pulley. Fit starter handle to other end of rope.hold rope and remove screwdriver and slowly feed rope back into starter

Hi, My pull string broke and I am not sure how to get the shaft off to replace the string? I see it looks like there is a bolt down the middle of the shaft but I can not get it to come out. Please help....

Just remove the housing from the motor and let the rest of the machine come out of it. Not sure if this is a blower or trimmer. Some disassembly and removal of parts is required. If you get to your starter recoil unit, you are going to have to pre-load tension on the pulley that holds the rope BEFORE you install the rope, otherwise it will not draw it onto the pulley, This is a step that eludes most and its not that hard, you just turn the pulley so it gets tighter and tighter to turn about 4-6X and then jam it or hold it in place while a helper threads the NEW rope thru the eye in the pulley, ties a knot in it to hold it...then and only then do you let go of the pulley and it draws the rope in. Make sure you have the handle on it during this step or tension will be lost. As far as the bolt down the middle, you may be looking at a coupler for the flex drive on a weedeater or the crankshaft of the engine...otherwise, I'm not sure.

Lawn mower troubles

You must first remove the cover assembly which houses the starter pulley. Pull the old rope completely out until it no longer moves. Hold the starter pulley and remove the old rope. Try to wind the starter pulley spring tighter if possible. DON'T LET GO. The starter rewind spring must be wound before installing the new rope. After winding the spring, thread the new rope through the cover and into the hole in the pulley. Tie a good knot in the end and let the rope wind slowly into the housing. Once you have this done, replace the cover, get the proper length of rope, thread it through the handle, tie a knot in this end and your ready to go.
