Question about Nikon Cameras

[Nikon D90] Showing blinking "err" message, lock up mirror not available, state persists.

Yesterday I bought an HDMI mini and connected the camera to the TV. After a while of testing the focus on it, the camera's live view went blank, and the Live View on the camera turned off and the camera started showing a blinking error message "err". I turned it off then on, still the error message blinking. I pressed the shutter button, the camera made the "Shutter Sound" as if I was shooting in a high speed mode (like the shutter in closing more than once). Everytime I press the shutter button the LCD shows the shutter speed and the aperture for a second, and goes back to the blinking error message. I kept spamming the shutter button, then tried to turn back the live view. it took photos for a while, then it went black again giving the error message. I turned off the camera, removed the battery for a minute, then put it back on, turned the camea on and looked through the viewfinder while pressing the shutter button. like every 2~3 times the view in the finder is black, then at the 3rd or 4th time I press the shutter it shows the view. I googled the issue, and found things on the internet, people suggested formatting the SD card with a FAT32, I did. I removed the battery. I tried to clean the len's pins and mount pins, but I was afraid and didn't know how it should be. Anyway, I noticed this when I had the lens removed, the mirror had different "angles" everytime I did that. I decided to use the "lock up mirror" option in the settings. It was grayed out, and so was the "clean image sensor". I kept pressing with the shutter button and the mirror lock option became available.. I set the option and removed the lens to look at the mirror.. there was no change, pressed the shutter release like it stated on the screen, and checked the mirror again, it became flat, but with a different bluish colour. The LCD was viewing blinking dashes (---- ---)I tried to click the shutter button to "release the state", nothing happened. so I turned it off, and on, and the error message came blinking again. It is still doing the same and showing the error message. Please help me on this issue, please tell me how to fix it... thank you.

I forgot to mention that I completely removed the lens, and I tried the camera, it kept giving me the blinking "err", and doing the same shutter. the only difference is that there is no connection with the camera to set the Aperture (F--). I know this because I use the old Nikon manual lens along the 18-105 bundled with the camera.

UDPATE: I removed the lens and kept testing the shutter more than once. It kept doing the error thing, and it

completely for a while, then came back again with a shorter duration, then stopped giving the error. I tried to attach the 18-105mm lens, and try.. the error message starting appearing, took it off and attached the 70-300mm and it gave the same result as being lensless, I still didn't try it much, but I'll keep trying and write my observations here.

SOURCE: Camera turns off when pressing shutter button

Sounds like a compatability problem. If available, try a genuine Canon battery new and fully charged.

I'm getting a r16 error on my D90

The "r16" in the display is not an error code. It is simply informing you of the number of exposures that can be held in the camera's internal high speed memory before shooting would have to stop while the D90 transfers the pictures to the memory card. If you held the shutter release, you could watch the r16 value decilne by one for each exposure (r15, r14, r13, etc.).

Page 256 of the D90 User's manual indeed shows the Err error code, and defines it as a "Camera Malfunction", "Release shutter. If error persists or appears frequently, consult Nikon-authorized service representative." The "err" error code is a generic error. The camera has detected a problem, but it doesn't know exacly what, similiar to the fEE code. The "err" code could be camera / lens contacts or it could be a circuit board or even shutter failure. You've already tried the common contact cleaning fix (that never seems to solve the problem) without any luck, so you might have to call Nikon Support and arrange for service.

Good luck!

Nikon d90 err error

On page 256 of the D-90 user manual it says that an ERR message indicates a camera malfunction and that the malfunction can be cleared by releasing the shutter. I found that the only way I could release the shutter is to turn the camera off and back on. On rare occasions, I have needed to remove and reinstall the battery.

The manual says that if this problem persists or occurs frequently you should contact a Nikon authorized repair center for instructions. I recommend that you contact Nikon tech support at www.nikon.com before you send your camera for repair just in case they may have a solution that won't cost you any money for repairs. If the camera is still under warranty, I would definitely contact Nikon tech support to see what they have to say.

I bought new batteries for my N65 and my camera keeps blinking ERR.

The manual mentions only 2 conditions where the Err message appears. First if it is Err + E at the same time, the film has not completely wound and needs to be reloaded.

If it is Err alone, the manual states to fire the shutter and see if the message remains. If it does, to contact a Nikon Authorized Service Rep.

Try removing the lens. Turn it on. Press the shutter a few times. Re-attach the lens and try it.

I get an err message after i take a picture. i notice this happens when the over/under exposure indicator in the viewfinder is blinking before i take the picture. the err message only goes away if i remove...

I've also got a D90- nice camera. I only get the err message when the lens is not seated correctly or the f-stop ring is not set to the max. If you check the settings and assembly correctly and they seem OK, then the contacts may be dirty or faulty. If the indicator is blinking pre-shutter release, that may indicate the same issues. If you have another lense to try, that may be a good indicator of bad contacts or issues in the lense.

Purchased the D90 with 18-105 kit lens yesterday. Took it home started playing with it and after abt 5 clicks err came up on the screen. Consulted the manual talked about shutter release but if the problem...

According to and directly from Nikon:

When you see Err on the control panel, LCD monitor or viewfinder of your digital camera it refers to a camera malfunction. Try the following:
  1. Remove all accessories from the camera.
  2. Install a freshly charged battery into the camera.
  3. If your Nikon camera offers resets such as the two-button reset or a hardware reset please follow those instructions provided in the product manual.
If these steps do not resolve the Err message we recommend having a Nikon Authorized Repair Technician evaluate the Nikon camera. Click here for repair information.

Is there a memory card in the camera?

Also try cleaning the contacts on the lens (light rub with a pencil eraser works).
