The spin cycle is making a knocking noise and we suspect that because the drum is moving when you touch it that the drum needs replacing. That possible an arm on the spinner is broken. The machine is just 3 or so years old. It should be covered under lifetime warranty of the drum but we are afraid that the cost of labor through Sears is going to be too steep. What do you suggest?

Thanks for the advice.  The inner drum is moving and I know it should not.  I guess we will call sears to look at it.

2001 Gibson Washing Machine - Front Loader

Hi,

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Haier 1.0 washer makes load knocking noise in spin cycle

. Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the noise, if so the motor bearings, the drum agitator shaft and fittings must be checked. Also the suspensions which include the shock absorbers and springs, the body clamps must be checked to be in correct alignment and not changed in position. Tightening of the mounting is also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on the moving parts cane solve most issues.

Maytag front loader makes a loud noise in spin cycle

If its a loud knocking noise it could be either the transit brackets are still in place or the machine needs levelling or the springs/dampers on the drum are faulty or the bearings to the drum need replacing

Washing machine works but occasionally makes noise occasionally at end of cycle, when spinning etc. I suspect a missing sock may have found it's way through the gap and is in the drum housing, out...

Clothing cannot get into the drum housing. Noises which occur during the spin cycle suggest that the drum is being thrown of balance during the spin cycle. A possible cause of this is that the bracket which holds the drum to the spindle is partially broken. This bracket consists of 3 or 4 arms and eventually one or more arms will crack and break (this is a result of the interaction between the steel drum, aluminium bracket and electricty, which weakens aluminium over a period of time). If the machine is not examined and repaired, then the drum noise will get worse and the drum will start to knock & rub against other parts, especially the water heating element and this will result in a more costly repair.

MY NEPTUNE WASHER IS MAKING NOISE DURING SPIN CYCLE WHAT PART DO NEED TO REPLACE? MODEL # MAH4000AWW

If the noise starts before the drum starts to turn it might be the pump is obstructed. If it starts soon as the drum starts to turn then might be the drum bearing. If it is a knocking vibrating sound open the door and grasp inner drum try moving up and down and side to side . If there is any movement aside from the whole mechanism then the spider that holds the shaft to the drum is broken . Need a tech

Washer makes loud knocking noise

I think that the drum bearings have gone on the machine..

To open the door and spin the empty drum quickly by hand and you should hear the noise or say a less amplifed one.. You can also move the inner drum up and down to see if there is something wrong with it..

Kenmore front loading HE3 makes knocking sounds during spin cycle

Ours started knocking several months ago and then progressed to a high pitched sound when in the spin cycle. I manually turned the drum and heard and felt a bearing roughness. I lifted the drum assembly and felt a fair amount of play, which I think the initial knocking noise came from. On the sears web site a new rear drum mount cost 293.00. Today we went and bought a LG model wm2455hw at Home depot, on sale until 2/20/08. I couldn't see paying to repair a machine that only lasted four years.
