Question about Mitsubishi WS-55908 55" Rear Projection Television

Mitsubishi WS-55908 Convergence Issue; need IC 7A00, Panasonic MN12857k MA2

My blue CRT coolant leaked onto my signal board and a reputable board repair place said the 7A00 IC was bad, a Panasonic MN12857K MA2, 44 PLCC and it is no longer available. Any idea where I might find one? I am able to desolder the old and put on the new. The tv doesn't have that many hours on it and I'd hate to make it landfill. Thanks much.

Thanks Mike for the quick response. I have heard this and understand the issue. I am a EE and used to work on PCB's. I've built engineering protos and have had to repair my share of traces, pads, etc. The coolant had only leaked for a month or so and the vias look fine and there was no corrosion on the board that I could see with my inspection lamp after thorough cleaning. I sent it off to who specializes in fixing these and many other tv boards and, in fact, they have rebuilt traces, etc. on boards from my local service guy. They have had the board for a few weeks and thought the board was ok, but somehow they were able to diagnose the IC as being bad. I'm willing to spend a little money and a lot of effort to replace the IC before the set goes to landfill, but it's sure looking like that's where it will end up. With this further information any idea where I might find this chip? Thanks again for your feedback.

Sorry, but when the coolant leaks down onto the small signal board, that board will never work right again. The fluid penetrates the board itself since the board is double sided and has many feed-throughs. The fluid gets under the surface mount parts and just eats through the copper traces, part leads and board itself. After trying many times to clean and restore those boards, not one has ever worked right again. The boards are NLA from Mitsubishi, so the set is done.

I am also an EE (Rutgers, '86). The only place I would think to get a part like that is from Mitsubishi themselves, and I believe you already tried that without luck, so unfortunately I cannot help any more than that. One thing to remember... If somehow you do get the set going again, you must prevent more coolant from hitting the board. I have saved RCA and Hitachi sets after coolant leaks and found that an empty tub of butter held in place with double-sided sticky take works great.

The Color On My Mitsubishi Rear Projection Tv model- WS-55908 looks to be off, picture looks blue and Yellow.

its sounds like the convergence on your TV needs to be adjusted. (this adjusts all of the color guns in the back of the tv to line them up again, when they get off, you start to get yellow blue or red halos around objects in the picture. In the setup menu on your TV under picture or Display there will be an item that says "convergence" follow the instructions in there so all the crosses on the screen no longer have colored halos anymore.

Coolant leaked from the green bulb

Yes, the diagnosis was correct. Some models of Mitsubishi as well as a few other manufacturers have had issues with this. The cost to replace circuit board damaged by the coolant (ethylene glycol) along with the affected CRT is prohibitive. Check with Mitsubishi. Some manufacturers acknowledge problems such as this and may offer assistance.
