Need the stock rom for a mid 729b?

Can you tell me where you got the upgraded rom from, and have you tried downloading the firmware from the manufacturer's website?

Forgot password for Craig CMP741e tablet. tried to reset factory settings (holding on button with volume button) but wouldn't do anything

The only way to fix this is by restoring the firmware. There are two different firmware loads for that tablet, depending on the manufacture date. You can download the firmware for the older CM741E from the web site, but the newer firmware you can to get provided by Craig.

You will either need to make a bootable MicroSD card using Phoenixcard, or use a special software called LiveSuit to push the firmware into the tablet.

My Micro Cruz keeps turning itself on. Won't stay off for longer than five minutes then the screen powers up and stays on. I have resorted to powering it off after use which sucks as it looses time, my...

So it's your screen that is coming back on after you press the power button to put it into sleep mode (not all the way off)? Flashing to the new firmware made this issue even worse. I would try a full reset. Back up apps and follow the procedure for resetting the device (press the hole at the top with a paper clip don't use a mechanical pencil...).
Other than this I would reflash or flash to a new rom it seems like you have a defect not a software issue. Flashing to the the updated rom should've fixed any problem that was software based not made it worse. It seems like there is a connection loose and it's triggering the device to wake up from sleep mode. If you feel like you have it in you, you can pull the device apart and try securing all connections but this is not recommended.

If i try to root the cruz ereader r101 and it doesn't work, can i get it back to working with original firmware?

Yes. Flashing the ROM does the same thing as updating your firmware. You are simply updating your firmware to one that isn't the original. All you do is load up the file from the velocity website onto your SD card and flash and you will be back at the standard ROM.
I suggest Macho ROM or JGM if you want the android market. Both run overclocked if you so choose which is much faster. JGM also has a vanilla rom (and there is and improved vanilla rom) which gives the tablet bare-bones applications if you want it to be just a reader. I would follow the method for flashing jgm. It lays out how to set up app2sd and all that. allows you to download apps that are not found in the market or whatever after you have rooted. Simply search the name of the app and put .apk at the end. Be careful as you can get malware from this. This method breaks copyright laws as all apps on it are offered for free and I only suggest it to download apps that are free on the market...
