Question about Ingersoll Rand Air Tools & Compressors
We have stepped through all 4 recommendations in the troubleshooting chart and yet we still get this alarm. It recommends that we make sure the "cooling air discharge" is not blocked, but there is not schematic or exploded view in the ops manual. Can anyone help?

Sorry, what do you mean it 'blows off',, the relief valve is letting off pressure ? Sounds like you need to replace it with the proper psi Relief valve or just a new one. Then you say it restarts but in your question you say 'Cant set my compressor to automatic start/stop mode' If it is restarting that means it is automatically 'stopping' then automatically 'starting' Please clarify your question.

U NEED TO ADJUST THE PRESSURE SWITCH ON THE BACKUP TO A LOWER PSI. TO COME ON AFTER THE PRIMARY. EXAMPLE: PRESSURE SWITCH ON PRIMARY COMP. SET AT 140-175 PSI AND BACKUP SET AT 135-170 PSI. U CAN USUALLY TURN ONE CENTER SCREW IN THE PRESSURE SWITCH COUNTERCLOCKWISE TO LOWER THE PSI.

Ingersoll-Rand uses a differential pressure switch that should be hooked to the separator tank on the "wet" side of the filter and to the "dry" side of the filter, either to the sump lid or to the bottom side of the minimum pressure valve on top of the sump tank. if it is hooked up down stream of the minimum pressure valve it will not work correctly.
If it does not use this, it reads pressure between 2 transducers on the compressor to determine the pressure drop across the separator filter while the compressor is under load. ou need to determine what system you have first to figure out what the problem is. feel free to contact me through my website for more information

Try to reset the main motor and fan motor over loads by pushing the reset on the overload it self, Then reset the controller. If the error resets, before starting. put a clamp on amp meter on to L1 or L3 motor lead which is located in the compressor electrical box . Then start and observe amps when unit is making air fully loaded. Once you know how many amps at full load the unit is pulling ,look at the overload setting on main motor overload and see if it is approxmately 10 amps above the max amps being pulled. If not set it about 10 amps above your max load amps.
