Hi, It seems internal/ inbuilt little speaker is bad that is why you do not get sound in camcorder itself during playback. Please check internal speaker and replace it to get sound. Let me know exact model number written on bottom of camcorder to provide you speaker part number , if required OR take it in local camera repair shop for speaker replacement. Thanks.
distorted sound from external speakers or internal speakers?
isolate please. remove external speakers if you have one. just troubleshoot on the internal speakers alone.
uninstall the audio drivers. install the latest one. if fails. download then flashed the latest bios.
run diagnostics extended test to check the internal speakers. if also fails then replace the internal speakers.
The BC72XLT is a USA model scanner, while the UBC73XLT is produced for Australia and New Zealand. The two are very similar, but not identical. There is a slight difference in frequency coverage (it's a bit wider on the UBC), the BC comes with a 110-volt AC power supply (wall-wart) for USA use, while the UBC comes with a 12-volt DC vehicle power supply.
FYI, here are links to the operating manuals for both models:
