Question about Audio Players & Recorders
Cassette needs to be a special type....when engaged in "play" mode machine shuts off...same with "record" mode...other modes (rw, fw)n are fine....when "arms" are pulled back machine works fine...could it be a the band ribbon?

it has probably thrown the capstan belt and will require a new belt fitted. the transport relies on capstan rotation to engage play. a separate reel motor operates ff/rew and takeup funtions

There is an idler wheel behind the platen ( black plate behind the cassette)..replace the idler wheel.
