Question about Gateway Computers & Internet
A few days ago I notice that when my monitor first starts up the screen goes white, the power button flickers slightly, but once the monitors fully turns on and shows the desktop it is fine. There is no discoloration on the screen, no weird lines, no real lag and the screen doesn't seem darker than usual. But now when it starts up its seems to be having trouble turning on and I have to turn the monitor itself off then on again to show the screen. But otherwise it looks just fine and works fine. Can this possibly be fixed or do I really have to replace it?

It sounds like the power supply board on your monitor is failing. If it's still under warranty you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer - if not, you might be able to have it repaired at a computer or TV repair shop.

SOURCE: RE:monitor goes black
Monitor going black after a few seconds can be causd by a faulty power supply or inverter. Some monitors have both as one unit.
Sometimes it is basic failed capacitors, After that then I would look at transistors.
The average monitor from 17 to 20 and sometimes the 22s have usually 4 bulbs in them. One bad bulb will also cause the inverter to not fire up.
Bad bulbs usually show pinkish tint, or flickering or are dark at center top or bottom of the display.

At first you should clarify if your GPU or LCD is broken.
Do You have any chance to try another monitor with your Graphicadapter or to try your monitor on a different PC?
Moreover you should try it with a new cable.
The symptom of weird symbols sounds most likely like a overheated or wrong-plugged Graphicadapter

Try a different monitor or this monitor on a different computer. If it makes same noise on different machine or new monitor makes no noise on your machine you need a new one.

The backlight or inverter is going out on your screen.
Eventually it will just stay dark. You will need to replace one of the two if plan on keeping monitor.
